In a world filled with uncertainty,
0:17
fear and despair, Jesus Christ stands
0:20
alone as the ultimate source of hope.
0:23
His life from his birth to his
0:26
resurrection
0:28
reveals why we can have confidence and
0:32
assurance in God's promises.
0:36
The Bible teaches us in Titus chapter 2
0:40
verse 13 we read looking for that
0:44
blessed hope and the glorious appearing
0:47
of the great God and our savior Jesus
0:50
Christ. Welcome to today's Bible study.
0:54
I'm Pastor Al Watkins from Wilmington,
0:55
North Carolina. And I hope that you
0:58
enjoy this presentation, but at the same
1:00
time, understand the truth that the
1:03
Bible teaches us, especially about
1:05
Jesus, because he is the Lord of the
1:08
Bible. I want to touch on five subjects
1:11
today to which we can place our hope in
1:15
Jesus Christ and the being and the human
1:18
that he was. He's as much God as he is
1:21
man. So therefore I'd like to begin with
1:24
his birth and his birth is important.
1:29
The circumstance of his birth,
1:32
the happen stance of his birth and the
1:34
reason for his birth. First of all, we
1:37
find out there is hope in the birth of
1:40
Jesus Christ. His birth is recorded in
1:45
the Bible in Matthew 1 23.
1:49
Behold, a virgin shall be with child and
1:52
shall bring forth a son, and they shall
1:55
call his name Emmanuel, which being
1:59
interpreted is God is with us. Jesus
2:03
coming into the world brought light into
2:06
darkness and hope into humanity.
2:11
This verse talks about Jesus's life at
2:13
the beginning because it was a prophecy
2:16
from the Old Testament from Isaiah
2:18
chapter 7 verse 14 proving that God does
2:23
keep his promises. God came near to us
2:26
through Jesus
2:28
and also he showed that he cared about
2:31
our struggles by experiencing them
2:34
himself in the man of Jesus.
2:39
So we recognize that God did
2:42
supernatural things to bring him about
2:44
to bring his birth into the world and
2:47
supernatural things could take place
2:49
because of his presence then and now
2:52
because he is the same then now and it
2:56
will be forever. So recognizing that
2:59
before he could live his life he had to
3:01
be born exactly the way God promised it
3:04
in the Old Testament.
3:07
We can find hope in the life of Jesus
3:10
through his example of his life and the
3:12
compassion of his heart. Jesus's life
3:16
demonstrated God's love through his
3:18
teachings, his miracles, and his
3:21
mercies. A passage of scripture from
3:23
John 10:10. Jesus spoke and he said that
3:27
the thief cometh not but for to steal
3:30
and to kill and to destroy. I am come
3:35
that they might have life and they might
3:38
have it more abundantly.
3:41
Let's read that verse again. The thief
3:44
cometh not but for to steal and to kill
3:47
and to destroy. I am come that they
3:50
might have life and they might have it
3:53
more abundantly. Now Jesus
3:58
told this
4:00
in his teachings when he was here that
4:04
the thief cometh not but for to steal
4:07
and to kill. And uh we understand that
4:10
the thief of course is Lucifer the devil
4:13
himself.
4:15
He comes to steal your soul from God's
4:19
eternal heaven.
4:21
He come to kill your witness so that
4:24
others couldn't see Jesus through your
4:26
actions.
4:27
But most of all, he came to destroy the
4:30
good things that God has built. But
4:33
Jesus said for himself, I have come that
4:37
they might have life. And they, who are
4:39
they? Those are the ones that follow
4:41
him. Those are the ones that love him.
4:43
And that they might have it not just
4:46
good, but more abundantly. And of
4:49
course, that more abundant life is the
4:50
contentment and the peacefulness and the
4:52
happiness that you find through living
4:54
the life of Christ. And Jesus gave us a
4:57
good example of that. He came to heal
5:01
the sick. He came to forgive the
5:03
sinners. And he showed that no one is
5:06
beyond his reach because he also lived
5:09
the sinless life. And he came with the
5:12
greatest purest love of all. And that
5:15
was for us. His life wasn't just to
5:20
teach the gospel. His life was to be the
5:22
gospel.
5:24
His life teaches us how we should live
5:27
through faith, how we should live
5:29
through love, and how we should have a
5:32
purpose of serving others as God served
5:35
us. Great stuff going on here.
5:39
Supernaturally born. And of course, he
5:42
gives us hope in his life through the
5:45
example of his life. And next, we'll see
5:48
something else that even in his death,
5:51
we can find hope.
5:54
The hope found in the death of Jesus
5:56
Christ is found because it's the price
5:59
that was paid for our sin.
6:02
Romans 5'8 says this, "But God
6:06
commendeth his love toward us in that
6:09
while we were yet sinners, Christ died
6:12
for us. He forgave us." And that means
6:16
he was giving us through his grace, the
6:20
mercy and honor of eternal life with
6:23
him. If we just simply accept the gift
6:26
that he gave for us,
6:31
the cross was the greatest demonstration
6:34
of hope because it is what secured our
6:38
salvation.
6:40
Let's read that again. Romans 5'8. But
6:43
God commendeth his love toward us in
6:46
that while we were yet sinners, Christ
6:50
died for us.
6:53
That simply means that our sins were
6:56
forgiven before we even knew Jesus. We
6:59
were lost in our sins. And even though
7:02
we didn't realize that, we find out that
7:05
he came and he did everything he needed
7:08
to do to save us from those sins. Hope
7:11
is not based on how good we are. Hope is
7:14
based through Jesus Christ and his grace
7:17
and his grace alone. the unmmerited
7:20
favor of a free gift of eternal life
7:23
from Jesus. You're not so far away from
7:28
God that he can't find you. You're not
7:30
so deep in any situation or circumstance
7:33
that he can't overcome it. He loves you.
7:36
He wants to forgive you. And if you'll
7:39
just receive the free grace of gift of
7:42
salvation through the blood that was
7:44
shed at the cross of Calvary, you can be
7:46
saved and saved to the uttermost. Now,
7:49
that's good news. So far, we've talked
7:52
about his birth. We've talked about his
7:54
life. We've talked about his death. But
7:57
it doesn't end there. There's more.
8:01
Yes, like all of us, he was born. He
8:04
lived a life. He died. But that wasn't
8:08
the end of the story. There's hope in
8:10
his resurrection because his
8:13
resurrection guaranteed our victory over
8:16
death because he shared it with us. In
8:20
Matthew 28:6,
8:22
he's not here for he is risen. And he
8:25
said, "Come see the place where the Lord
8:28
lay." He is not here, for he is risen.
8:34
There's an empty tomb. There's an empty
8:36
cross, but there's fullness of life for
8:40
those who will accept Jesus.
8:42
Bill Gaither wrote a song, and that song
8:45
simply said these words, "Because he
8:48
lives, I can face tomorrow." He's not
8:51
here. He's not in that grave. And
8:53
there's going to come a day when every
8:55
Christian is going to head on out of
8:57
here. All the graves are going to open
8:59
up. All the graves going to be empty.
9:01
The embombers are going to be out of
9:03
business. the funeral directors are
9:05
going to be out of business, especially
9:07
when it comes to Christians simply
9:09
because Jesus lives. And what that means
9:12
is simply this. We have hope through
9:15
Jesus Christ, the man born of a virgin,
9:19
lived a sinless life, died on the cross
9:22
to pay our sin debt, and now we see
9:25
through God's word, he is risen from the
9:27
dead, never to be buried again as a dead
9:31
man. So recognize this. Our future is
9:35
secure in the man that defeated death.
9:39
The God son, the God himself as Lord.
9:44
Because he loved us, we can face
9:47
tomorrow and face uncertain
9:49
circumstances through this life in which
9:51
we live today. That's good news. But
9:54
there's even more. There's even more
9:56
hope in the things Jesus brought through
9:59
living his life. Jesus promised his
10:03
followers
10:04
of the hope in his return. When he
10:07
ascended unto heaven, he said some
10:10
things along the way. But because he
10:14
ascended unto heaven and the promise he
10:17
made in John 14:3,
10:20
we have a blessed hope in knowing we're
10:23
going to see him again because he said
10:25
there, "If I go and prepare a place for
10:29
you, I will come again and receive you
10:32
unto myself that where I am, there ye
10:36
may be also. Listen to the promise of
10:39
the Lord. And if I go and prepare a
10:42
place for you, I will come again and
10:45
receive you unto myself, that where I
10:48
am, there ye may be also.
10:53
Do you know what that means, folks? That
10:56
means that no matter what happens in
10:58
this world, it's temporary at best for
11:01
everything about us. We understand that
11:03
no matter how dark things may seem at
11:06
times, that we can look forward to
11:08
Jesus's coming back. making all things
11:10
perfect and brand new in our lives all
11:13
over again. Our hope is anchored in
11:16
eternity, not in a temporary world in
11:19
which we see around us. Recognize this.
11:22
Jesus was born. Jesus lived. Jesus died.
11:26
Jesus made a promise after he
11:29
resurrected that he
11:33
is coming again to bring his children
11:35
home. What a day that's going to be when
11:38
we're going to see the loved ones that's
11:40
gone on ahead of us in Christ. And what
11:42
a day it's going to be when we see Jesus
11:44
himself. What a wonderful, beautiful
11:47
day. But that's not the end of the story
11:49
either. I want to conclude with a few
11:52
thoughts
11:53
that you might enjoy. One of the
11:55
thoughts I want to leave with you is
11:57
this. Remember in Titus where we started
12:00
chapter 2 verse 13 looking for that
12:03
blessed hope and the glorious appearing
12:06
of the great God and our savior Jesus
12:09
Christ. What a wonderful thing that was
12:12
said right then and there. So as we
12:15
close this program out I'd like to
12:17
remind you my name is Pastor Al Watkins
12:20
and I'd like for you to like and also
12:23
share this particular message if you
12:25
enjoyed it. bring a good thought to
12:28
others that need a hope in life. There's
12:31
hope in the life of Jesus because he was
12:33
born as God said he was. He lived like
12:36
God said he would. He died like God said
12:39
he would. He came alive from the dead
12:41
like God said he would. He also
12:44
descended unto heaven, ascended that is
12:46
unto heaven. And he promised that he
12:48
would come back. Now we can see there is
12:52
hope in the name of the Lord. I'm Pastor
12:54
Al Watkins. Stay tuned for another one
12:58
hopefully coming up very shortly. Hope
13:01
you enjoy these Bible studies. If you
13:02
do, by all means like them and share
13:06
them. God bless until we meet again.
