Here are five tricks and shortcuts that will help you save a lot of time in Excel
0:05
Number one, if you want to get the current date and the current time, well, this is very easy to do
0:11
So in the current date, you can just simply say control, semicolon, and you have the current date
0:17
In the current time, you can say control, shift, semicolon, and you have the current time
0:23
So you can see that these two are exactly the same with the ones on my laptop here
0:27
So that's how easy it is. Number two, if you want to remove duplicates in your entries
0:34
this is very easy to do. For the sake of this exercise, I've highlighted some of the duplicates
0:41
For example, the first entry, this one, and the last entry are just the same. Equally, this entry
0:49
and this one are also the same. So there are many other entries in this table that are the same and
0:56
want to get rid of all of them. So in order to do that very easily you simply select the entire table saying Ctrl down then forward Once you have done that you go to the Data tab You click this tab that says Remove Duplicates Click on it
1:13
Excel will detect your table. You say OK. And boom! Nine duplicates have been found and removed
1:19
Twenty unique values remain. You say OK and all your duplicates are gone
1:23
You can see we had three of these. We just have one. And we had two of these. We just have one
1:29
So it's that easy. Number three. Suppose we have our customer data in one quorum like that
1:36
and we want to separate it into first name, last name and their customer ID. Well, this is very
1:41
simple to do with the first fill. So the first thing you can do is just fill the first row. So
1:50
once you fill the first row, for the rest it's very easy. You come to this one and you can just
1:55
say control E and it will fill the rest. Equally you go on the last name, you say
2:02
control E and all of them will be filled and the last one control E and you have all your data beautifully separated it that easy number four we have the names of our employees and we want to separate them into the first name
2:18
and the last name now we can use the flash field like we did in the last example but
2:23
i'm going to show you another different way in which you can do this so once in this one to be
2:29
the first name and in this column to be the last name. So you simply select your data
2:34
Ctrl Shift down and once you do that you go on Data, the Data tab, then you go on Text to Columns
2:42
Click on it, choose delimited, Next and here you choose the delimiter that you're going to use to
2:49
separate your data. So if you can see our first name and last name are separated by a space
2:55
and so because of that we are going to choose a space. If your data is separated by a comma
2:59
you're going to choose a comma. If it's a semicolon, you choose a semicolon. After choosing
3:04
your delimiter you click next and you click finish and boom your data has been separated You can even name this one as last name like that It that easy So number five so you can see our data here is in a mess It doesn look good It hard to look
3:22
at it. It's hard to understand what is happening. To make this data look good, you probably adjust
3:28
these rows and then adjust the columns, but that will take a lot of time. So to easily do it, you
3:34
just select the entire table. So just say ctrl shift down and forward like that. So once you have
3:43
the entire table selected, you can place alt h o i and this will make sure that all your columns look
3:52
good. All your columns are fitted nicely. And to fit your rows, you just do the same. You do something
3:59
similar you say ctrl h o a all your data looks good now it's easy to understand what is happening
4:09
okay i'll leave this worksheet in the description below so that if you want to practice you can
