Hey 36 Fanatics, Steven here. Today I'm going to be doing a really small repair on my coolant system
0:09
Have you ever seen your onboard computer when you start your car
0:15
Have you ever seen your car flash the check coolant level? There it is right there on the onboard computer when you start your car
0:23
and when you see that of course what do you do you go up you raise your hood and open your reservoir
0:30
and maybe you see that the coolant level's right at the normal level so there is actually a coolant
0:38
level sensor in your reservoir that checks to make confirm that you have enough coolant in your car
0:45
when it gets too low that check coolant level light comes on however they are prone to failure
0:51
over time and it actually sits right there at the very bottom of the reservoir it plugs into
1:01
the reservoir right there and here's the new one i've already bought it and basically it's it doesn't
1:10
really harm anything if your coolant level sensor has gone bad um it doesn't doesn't mess with the
1:17
It doesn't cause a check engine light or anything, but I'm probably getting ready to sell this car
1:23
So I'm starting to do a few more repairs, just tinkering here and there with it to make sure that it's in good sellable condition
1:33
So anyways, this is a pretty easy repair. Basically what I like to do to do this is you going to pop this screw out and pop this little piece out and you going to want to get the coolant out of your reservoir Normally I got a siphon for it but today all I got is a turkey baster and it works
2:01
fine just get a turkey baster in a bucket and I've got some more coolant sitting here because I'm
2:06
just going to change out this little bit of old stuff in the reservoir with some new ones new
2:11
stuff. So like I said, first step try and get as much of that old coolant out
2:20
because it is going to spill out when you remove the sensor. So what I'm gonna do
2:28
next is I'm gonna go ahead and pull out this screw and I'm gonna pop this off
2:41
and there we go got that out says you can see it's floating now
2:51
but that's not all you got to do you also so you're going to have clips that hold on your fan shroud
3:01
to the radiator mine when i did a water cooling upgrade a while ago i broke them so i just zip
3:11
tied it and it works the same. So I'm gonna go ahead and cut this zip tie. Like I said
3:16
you probably got the push. Okay, last but not least, to make it a little bit easier
3:22
I going to go ahead and pull the windshield wiper container or the windshield wiper reservoir Which is probably another repair I should do I
3:42
It's never even worked pretty sure the pumps bad So anyways you got one screw here
3:49
Set that there and you gotta move your smog out of the way And after that just lifts right up
3:56
Okay, so I did put a paper towel under here to cover the compressor belt because I'm sure a little bit's gonna spill out
4:02
So I went and did that so the nice thing this is pretty easy. It's actually as bold as hand turnable
4:14
So that's pretty nice You can see some of that coolant starting to come out
4:26
and look see this bit sees little pieces right here that's the that's the bobber look at it
4:50
So it's broken down. That's why it's not working. So just with the mileage and everything, you can see the little pieces
4:58
It's just falling apart. Okay, so you can see it's crumbled into little pieces just over time
5:07
Wow. So I'm glad it's an easy repair. Or I probably wouldn't take the time to do it
5:15
All right so here my old one And here my new one as you can see like I said that bobber came completely apart so I
5:30
put in this new one okay so it is a tight fit to get that new one on but it'll definitely it
5:40
definitely fits and you can see the new one inside so this just has to be hand
5:51
tightened and then you want to go ahead and pop back on the wire to it and put
5:58
everything back together okay got everything back together everything's back on solidly that's on tight got the sensor back I just got put this back on
6:10
and fill your coolant back up to the cold line and then you're going to want to go ahead and
6:16
bleed the coolant system a little bit so just leave that bleed screw and the radiator cap off
6:21
and start the engine and let it bleed out some of that air a bit. Also notice if you're doing this
6:27
job and you see a big crack on the inside of your expansion tank that means it's time to replace it
6:35
I'm going to go ahead and order one and probably end up replacing this thing soon
6:41
And look at that. No more check coolant level light. Awesome. So that's taking care of that
6:49
Also, I've got a new BMW blog that I've been working on. If you want to check it out
6:54
I've got some information on there that you might find helpful and useful. It'll be in the top right
7:01
of this video if y'all want to check it out if you get some free time

thanks a lot hope you enjoyed this video
