So at this point I've pulled the door handle
0:12
This is the old one. As you can see on the back, this is the clip, the retaining clip that I was talking about
0:24
or the slider, what a lot of people call it. slides up slides in and out so that you can pull out the outer trend piece so
0:41
new one also comes with a new slider on the top now here's your biggest issue
0:48
with this that you'll be able to see with this why why this thing was falling apart so
0:57
You have on this, the old one, you had the plastic rubber come off on both the main lock part and the smaller lock part
1:17
See here it's on here and on here. That might seem like you can replace it without it, but you can't, unfortunately
1:27
Then here is the door handle, bare door handle. It been bent before I think somebody damaged it a little bit before but it looks okay Okay so at this point I finished with the door handle assembly and I in the process of putting it back together
1:48
I figured I was on the home stretch, but it's a real pain in the you know what to put this window, get it back on its tracks, and get it back on the regulator with the clips
1:59
I saw on the newer ones, the newer BMW 36es, I don't think they have these retaining clips on the sliders in here on the knobs
2:15
But on this 95, it does have these retaining clips, and you've got to put them back on
2:23
And it's a real pain to get them back on. The other note is when you're doing this job and you're first removing the window up, getting it out of the way, it's probably going to fall off of the front slider right here
2:42
It slides on this metal frame right here. So you're going to have to realign that as well when you put it back on
2:50
So I tried a couple different things to get it back on this front slider
2:55
and to have space to put it on this backslider. Another issue is, as I've continually been playing with it
3:08
the regulator has to be reset, or the window has to be reset
3:13
which isn hard to do but the regulator won go all the way up now That kind of normal when you doing work with this that might happen to you So what I ended up doing is I end up lifting the whole window back up
3:31
and then first putting this back in, just loosely fitting it in. And don't forget to put
3:39
grease this rail up real nice, grease it up real good. I just use some white
3:46
lithium grease and don't forget to grease up the inner rails here that run on the regulator
3:54
as well just so you'll have a good working window for a long time to come so you don't have to do this
4:01
again see it's my door handle as you can see here this isn't the actual retaining piston that
4:11
comes stock on it I went to Lowe's and bought another one so
4:16
Now this is sliding really nice and I've put this back on here
4:20
Now I just need to put the retaining clip back on this and on this, which is going to be a pain
4:26
But now that I've lubed it up, I can move it around a good amount
4:32
So I'm going to do that now. All right, last but not least, you've got to put your door panel back on
4:38
If you've got some blown speakers, this is a good time to go and replace these
4:42
Other thing is, so on this car, what you're going to really want to replace on these door panels is these little white plastic clips that hold it together
4:52
See some of them are good Some of them are good on this but then others end up like this just break and some of them aren even there So you going to want to replace these It always a good idea to have maybe 10 or 20 of these just hanging around if you own an E36
5:11
Or if you have a couple E36s like we do, you're going to want to keep these old white tabs around
5:19
And they're really easy to pull off. You just take a screwdriver and pop them
5:25
They pop right out. and once you put these new ones in, they'll hold the door panel on much better
5:34
The jerk who owned this car previously, I keep ragging on him, but he is
5:40
He put, you can see screw holes. He put screws through the dang door panel because the tabs have gone bad
5:51
I guess he wasn't smart enough to take a look to just put new tabs in, but he put screw
5:57
through the dang door panel. So he's got, my little brother's got holes now on his door panel
6:04
This is not an easy job and it takes, it took me about four or five hours
6:08
This is the first time I've done this job before and it's a real pain
6:13
I do not like working with very small spaces like this, having to tear up my hands and everything
6:21
So this is definitely not a fun job. But like I said, while you do this, you might as well go ahead and
6:27
and really grease up the rail here, then the two plastic rail
6:31
or the two rails that hold it to the window, and replace those little white sliders
6:37
