what's everyone this is two straws and we are back with another episode
0:11
uh what's everyone indeed [Laughter] we've been just uh kind of chillaxing
0:19
lots of crazy fights happened in the last couple of weeks um man we should get into it but I had a
0:27
lot of fun yesterday what did we get into yesterday oh man so we went up for the anniversary of um UFC Gym Huntington
0:35
Beach which is managed by one of my very close friends and um fight MMA fighter veteran Jamie Fletcher
0:43
yeah thank you very much for the invite Tito was not there he was not the best
0:48
not in the house but we had an amazing time we went ahead and did a women's
0:55
self-defense seminar yeah we did a meet and greet yeah and it was it was The
1:00
Happening spot I mean you know there was a bouncy tent there were many vendors yeah there was a great turnout with the
1:07
women's seminar which seriously it made me get like a little a little like right teary-eyed in a way
1:14
yeah you just made me really happy because I remember you know when when I started training there was maybe one
1:21
girl per gym you know and then like you know a girl would come through and you get all excited then she'd bounce yes or
1:27
whatever she realizes it's hard she ain't about that life I got sweaty I
1:33
think I'm good I don't like it I met my boyfriend so I'm gonna leave now yeah my boyfriend's a fighter so I don't need to
1:39
be one but um at the UFC Gym it's just a really
1:44
great reminder of what visibility does and what you know the addition of women
1:50
to the UFC is done within the last what eight nine years
1:56
um you see a lot more people doing it for fun um and a lot of people doing it because
2:01
they like to compete and it's it's not like the thing that's gonna end like
2:08
sexism or the thing that's gonna end dangerous things happening to women but
2:13
it's definitely going to give them some uh clues of how to survive a dangerous
2:19
situation so it was kind of cool being able to do that self-defense seminar because you witness a lot of women uh
2:27
just seeing how powerful they are for the first time and it's really cool like
2:32
they're moving their body in a way that they haven't done their entire life and some of these women were a lot older too and it's just really cool to be able to
2:40
give I guess give back give like a skill to someone that they might be able to use one day and even if they don't it's just
2:47
fun like it's fun to know hey I can flip this guy over if I need to or hey I can
2:54
like push this girl away from me in a way where I'm athletic and I'm not gonna fall over myself and it makes you just a
3:01
little more confident walking into a room I don't know and it was cool seeing so many chicks come through because
3:07
there's been uh you know I've seen events where only a handful of people show up you know like and and they love
3:15
it but their friends don't come and it was a huge group we took a big group
3:21
photo so it was like at least 30 girls and uh yeah it was really great being
3:26
able to do that it was special yeah and it was very special that we got to do it together yeah it was fun it was super
3:33
fun yeah our powers combined yes
3:38
um yeah so uh yesterday we had UFC 290 one the week before we had UFC London
3:45
um I don't know it just happened 291 but what do you think was the most exciting
3:51
card I think 291 I mean not just because it's like really present in my mind but there
3:56
was just like I mean there was some weird stuff that happened there was some exciting stuff that happened like there was just you know a lot of really
4:03
incredible moments yeah a lot of comeback stories um the BMF title was on the line so in a
4:12
lot of ways the main card felt like each of those fights were for a BMF title
4:17
like they were good matchups they weren't matches where you're like man I really don't want one guy to win I want
4:23
the other guy to win like a lot of them were just like man if either one of these guys are gonna win I'm gonna be
4:29
happy for one of them you know it's it was like a really good uh group of names like a lot of fan value with the people
4:36
who were on that card and I loved it I loved it I I agree I think 291 was more
4:42
special but let's start with London just in case we forget
4:47
case we forget what happened yeah I have to pull it up yeah so I
4:54
think the biggest storyline was um was uh aspinal coming back
5:02
that was the biggest storyline um he had to fight uh uh what was his
5:07
name tybora and that was like you know it wasn't the hardest fight for him uh I
5:16
mean compared to uh Curtis blades but it was still one of these big tests if you
5:22
can't put this guy away maybe you're not as special as we thought you were before you fought Curtis blades before that
5:28
weird uh freak injury happened um so he proved he's special like he he
5:33
erased the fact that the Curtis blades fight happened and ended the way that it did it's all a comeback story now so
5:40
that was pretty cool to see because we don't really have that much um New Blood and heavyweight not that
5:48
many people look super impressive we have uh people like chimaya of people like um
5:54
um nazrop hakama you know the guy I'm talking about the guy with the cool hat uh we have all these like undefeated
6:01
prosper effects who get these first round finishes and everyone's excited about them and other weight classes but
6:07
we don't really have that right now on heavy weight and after Cyril gone dropped the ball against Jon Jones we
6:13
haven't you know been super excited about him I mean honestly after he fought uh in Ghana we haven't been super
6:20
excited about him so now we have Tom aspinall athletic heavyweight guy first
6:26
round finishes can knock you out can submit you so that's pretty exciting for
6:31
for London like it is exciting but I also feel like there's just this huge Talent gap
6:36
between you know the Jon Jones and then the rest of the vision so it does make
6:42
it interesting um I love that he took the moment you know post fight to you know
6:49
do the call out thing uh which Jon Jones responded what did John John say and
6:56
what was the call out I didn't hear that no I heard him say that he was gonna hang out with uh at UFC France right
7:03
with cyric and uh uh gone and then called the winner of that yeah I think
7:09
he just he was just saying that he's you know he's ready for it he wants the title that okay you know that's all yeah
7:15
it wasn't like you know Jon Jones I'm coming for you I don't know still all your crack and
7:21
and right hey hey he's classy he does cocaine calm down he is classy I hate
7:28
that people say that about him he has a lot of money he can afford the
7:34
good stuff exactly adults do cocaine
7:39
teenagers play with that adults do cooking and then fight two days later oh
7:44
my gosh oh my God and win oh my gosh
7:51
um yeah so what how did Jon Jones respond do you remember I I have to look it up but it was all over like
7:58
screenshot and stuff like that yes basically telling them to like sit down and wait his truck yeah yeah I'm
8:03
basically tell him to calm down yeah and then he had another really you know cute cheeky response and he was like chill
8:09
chill I love it I love when guys Get Saucy I love that part of MMA
8:17
um and while you're looking for that uh our Girl Molly McCann
8:23
had a pretty heartbreaking upset um she fought a woman who is very good
8:31
at arm bars and Molly got armbird it was kind of anticlimactic
8:37
um it it really sucks because uh people never really talk about and we kind of
8:43
mentioned this last week where or the a couple weeks ago where um uh a girl had trained with Yasmine
8:50
she was a huge favorite she ended up dropping the fight she got knocked out
8:55
very early in the fight and just people turn on you and with Molly it's even
9:01
worse because Molly is such an outspoken person she's such a personality
9:07
um a lot of people feel like she's been given the easy road to uh to fame she
9:13
kind of uh hung out with Patty and was a close friend of Patty pimlet who also
9:18
had like kind of an easy road to fame so people are just gonna pile on because of
9:24
those things you know and I've never like obviously as a fighter I've felt
9:30
that way too but I don't knock The Fighter for that you know I think that she packaged herself well she used her
9:37
personality to gain that notoriety she has big knockouts on her record in cage Wars which is why they uh brought her
9:45
into the UFC so after and I think when you meet someone like that too even if
9:51
you had some sour feelings about how they've gotten the easy Road in the UFC you meet them
9:58
and it dissipates like she's just such a warm character such a heartfelt person
10:03
um such a just you could tell she's super loyal and to watch her get taken
10:10
out like that it was it sucks but it sucks even more because you know the pal on is gonna be crazy
10:17
it's it's hard because yes we are in you know the the hurt game where we are in the
10:25
entertainment you know industry basically you know we're not just athletes but we're entertainers and
10:31
she's a great Entertainer she's well spoken she's very lovable very uh Magnetic Personality yeah and and that
10:39
being said there's there's more to Fighters than just fighting and and winning and we're still human we still
10:45
have you know good days and bad days and I would I I hope I wish I like to think
10:52
that people can appreciate us for you know who we are and not necessarily like hold us to you know a win or a loss
10:59
that's that's my wish never gonna happen never you're living in a dream world
11:05
sister girl can hope just keep doing those questions
11:13
keep telling us to get a booty like Dumont I'll show you more likely
11:19
oh you are so mean I had to bring it back to the jokes from
11:24
last time um no I agree I I it would be nice if
11:30
people could understand that but you know you you also understand that as a fighter you understand hey these people
11:36
who are giving me [ __ ] they know nothing about me I have my inner circle those are the people who matter those are the
11:42
people whose opinions matter and those are still like you know you can take them or leave them too so it's it's
11:48
really uh I don't know it's really just having a thick skin and you can tell that Molly does she definitely has a
11:55
thick skin that's why she's gotten so far that's why she's able to carry herself in the way that she is put her
12:00
personality out there um and now she's talking about going down to 115. so what do you think about
12:06
that she is a smaller flyweight yeah she really is um I feel like
12:13
I mean she might do well it might be better for her I don't know what that weight cut is going to look like for her
12:18
it would probably take a while to transition but you know we have the amazing people at the uscpi you know I
12:25
can't say like oh she can't make it she's not going to do well because I'm still hoping and praying that the Adam weight division you know happens
12:32
[Laughter] and when that time comes I'll make that [ __ ] wait uh
12:39
so I yeah I understand I mean um what's her name Roberts Jillian Roberts you
12:45
know just went down and she was one of those girls where she was you know smaller for the flyweight Division and
12:52
you know she went down and she made the way to easily because she made those adjustments so it may not be a bad move
12:58
for her just you know frame wise yeah no I think frame wise it's not a bad move
13:03
but I think when it comes to technical ability she still has to just really
13:10
grind on that ground game because there's actually way more annoying
13:15
aggressive Grapplers and uh and straw weight than in flyweight like I feel
13:22
like there's a handful of people that you have to be worried about in a Flyway and maybe maybe it's scarier
13:29
um you know maybe the people who are less dangerous are more dangerous because they have that extra you know
13:34
bit of poundage the extra pop when they hit the takedown like it does matter you don't feel like you can defend the
13:42
takedown sometimes when you're fighting someone who's a lot bigger but uh I don't know man the girls have straw
13:48
weight they cut a lot and they're big and heavy they're most challenges are freaking flyweight yeah most of them are
13:54
fat are just cutting so much weight because they want that Advantage because it is such a big Advantage so you don't
13:59
have to close that technique Gap yeah you know yeah you can
14:04
go in with your assets as they are but because you cut so much weight because you have that size and strength
14:10
Advantage it it closes it closes all those gaps and it like makes it a lot
14:15
easier yeah it really does yeah that's why I have a lot of respect for Android because she actively is
14:25
um competitive in both weight classes so even though it feels like she's using that size Advantage at straw weight
14:31
she's still pretty short and then she goes up the Flyway and does the same thing fights the same way so it's pretty
14:38
impressive that she's been able to like stay in the top five in both categories um I'm interested to see what happens
14:45
I'm interested to see who Molly would get at 115
14:50
um and yeah I think a lot of people are going to be licking their chops waiting for her to come down because you know
14:56
you you saw the technique on the submission it was a really good arm bar but the defense wasn't there no yeah and
15:04
that's the thing that she has to grind with is just really getting into those uncomfortable spots and figuring out how
15:12
to defend it yeah this is no longer a sport where you can be a specialist and
15:17
get away with it for too long you know you can have a clear-cut easy path for a
15:23
while but then you're going to run into those people that are going to be able to counter those techniques and like really neutralize your offense and so it
15:30
is extremely important to close those gaps and keep building those skills all the time yeah for sure
15:37
um another fight that I was excited from about I mean from uh UC London is Paul
15:44
Craig he made his middleweight debut so my country man
15:49
[Music] I'm about as Scottish as uh du plessis
15:54
is uh African I'm Scottish I'm Scottish every now and
16:00
then you know at least once a week got some Scottish in me listen I
16:08
the first time I saw him at weigh-ins and before like I knew he was as a
16:13
fighter you know it came in with the brave heart yeah you know like looking ready to kill and then he pulled guard and I was like I know it's very not like
16:22
it feels like it just didn't he really Foos with him it just fell it just felt a little off
16:28
to me yeah I was like I felt like you were like really gonna you know charge and strike
16:34
in and you know be you know a different style of fighter than you were you're not mad purely the
16:41
Scott scottishness has nothing to do with anything else I misread the situation and I can acknowledge that I
16:47
mean the Scottish were really good at guerrilla warfare so perhaps him pulling guard is like the equivalent of like I
16:55
don't know digging a trench and leading them into a you know open up like a prairie dog yeah
17:01
like leading them into a field of thistles and um I don't know get pricked and then
17:09
he goes in for the kill but in this fight he showed a lot of stand up like he he was throwing punches
17:16
he was throwing kicks and I always felt like he looks a little awkward on his feet but he makes it work he'll hurt
17:22
people with it if anything sometimes that Herky jerkiness of uh of a stiff
17:28
puncher's like stand up can throw people's Rhythm off and then they block
17:34
things that aren't being thrown and then when they do get hit they're like where'd that come from so I feel like
17:39
that worked really well to his benefit and you know at middleweight he's gonna be the bigger guy he actually looked in
17:46
shape like a healthy size and that's what I was worried about I was worried that he was gonna look frail and small
17:53
like um uh who's the guy who moved down to to uh fight Aldo plagiarizer
18:04
what's his name again uh Kevin uh yeah you know what I'm talking about yes yeah
18:10
so I was worried that he would look frail at that size because he's such a big light heavy but he looked good he
18:17
looked good I was impressed good job Paul Craig
18:24
yeah well you know I have practice oh and one more I want to talk about
18:30
um and then you can jump on whatever uh you went from UFC London um did you see the mark the Cassie fight
18:38
versus Joel Alvarez let me pull it up it was a weird one because uh there was a
18:46
headbutt yes a big head butt in round two and then he complained about it the
18:53
referee didn't jump in and and stop it and then the guy jumped on him and got
18:59
the sub I vaguely remember what you're talking about yeah and I can try to pull it up
19:06
real quick but uh it's just really unfortunate because
19:11
um you know it was an obvious head but I think there was a head butt earlier in the card too and um and the fight was
19:18
Frozen froze for a second let the fighters recover and then they kept fighting this time there was a head butt
19:25
it was obviously accidental you know the the guy didn't go for a head but uh but
19:31
did Cassie got the worst of it and he was wobbly after after they like rose
19:37
the other guy's hand like they brought them both into the center and said okay Joel you won by submission uh the
19:43
referee let go of Mark to Cassie's hand and he's like stumbling backwards yeah it was really upsetting to see because
19:51
it was literally seconds after the head butt sometimes when there's a foul that
19:56
happens and then the Fight Continues and then it goes so decision and then maybe there was some damage from the head butt
20:03
in the fighter lost the decision it's like okay it's not as clear why the
20:09
fighter lost but in this situation it was like head butt submission finish guy
20:15
is still concussed when they raise the other guy's hand so it I don't know it just seemed really unfortunate and I'm
20:22
hope hoping they're able to do something about that peel it appeal it yeah I mean to say that that didn't
20:29
change the course of the fight is is just yeah rude that's a word for it but yeah
20:39
it absolutely chases changes the course of the fight when somebody sustains oh
20:44
yeah yeah definitely changed the course of that fight and it's like yeah it's not
20:49
like cause for a point deduction like it was obviously an accident it was a collision these things happen it happens
20:55
a lot in boxing happens a lot in MMA these things happen but for it to not be
21:00
called and given like medical attention or like have a doctor come and check you
21:05
out or give them those five minutes to recover because like even if you're concussed that doesn't mean the fight's
21:10
over you know if you get concussed from something like the knee um that poor aljo eight or a head butt
21:18
or something that's illegal and you just have a little bit of time and you're able to just breathe and get your mind
21:25
back the fight might still be able to go on but because there was no pause in action it just went concussion
21:32
submission finish and then it just really makes me upset and I hope because
21:38
you've we see it every now and then but it really is like once in a blue moon that a fight that everyone says should
21:45
get overturned turned or should be a no contest is actually overturned usually
21:51
what happens on Fight Night is on paper forever so I'm hoping that he's able to appeal
21:57
and I'm hoping he's successful because we do need a little more protection out there you know I guess MMA fighters
22:04
there's so many crazy things that can go wrong in there um it's just chaos really like boxing
22:10
there's a handful of things that could go wrong and MMA is like everything yeah there's so many different variables in
22:16
so many different possibilities I mean some of the stuff that happens in there is you know shocking yeah because we're
22:22
like I didn't see that coming but yeah we're not surprised yeah yeah we've learned to expect everything yeah our
22:28
surprise left us after our first year of watching and participating in MMA
22:34
so yeah I'm hoping Mark is healed up and I'm hoping you guys uh have all the
22:40
support you need to appeal that um anything else stand out in London I know we talked about a lot no I'm ready
22:47
to talk about 291. yeah like I'm over it I'm over it
22:54
yes so last week um all right you start on 299. okay it's
23:00
291 sorry I'm in the future So speaking of like Fells there was a fight it was
23:08
Jake Matthews versus um short notice of his last name is flowers no did you watch that one I just
23:13
saw the finish I didn't know there was a foul there there no it was just okay so it was just kind of it was a weird
23:19
situation so there was a groin shot and then in the second round I heard that Jake Matthews it was like in the same
23:26
round Jake Matthews stuck this like front kick to like toes underneath the
23:34
rib cage and then it looked like At first a foul but when
23:39
you ran it in slow motion it was just a perfect wrecked perfect like it was an
23:47
amazing amazing hit but they called it as a foul because as the foot came down it just kind of grazed it which I don't
23:53
think like I I don't I anyway I'm not just no
23:59
no you know you know our commenters are gonna go crazy I know I know I don't
24:05
deny you don't have the supply listen listen
24:11
so flowers he goes down into like turtle position okay and he like the it looked
24:21
like he got failed but looking at the replay and the
24:28
ref didn't see this right so he called it a five minute okay but it gave him time to recover and he it wasn't
24:36
actually like a direct nutshot so I feel like they've said to us that if
24:44
there is a moment like that where it looks like a foul the ref stops the action
24:51
because the person is down on the ground and in field position but then they look they go back and they look at um they
24:59
look at the replay and it wasn't a foul then that counts as a TKO it should but
25:04
it did not I mean anyways the fight went on and flowers lost he ended up getting taken down submitted jblies was like all
25:11
right enough I'm not playing with you anymore enough enough that's enough but
25:16
it's just one of those weird situations where okay we have this access to you know
25:22
view footage not necessarily going to instant replay because that would end the fight but like Let The Ref know
25:29
what's actually happening because the ref is going off of what he saw and I mean refs are susceptible to Human air
25:34
because they have angles and all that kind of stuff and so it was just a really
25:40
weird situation where again that could have changed the course of the fight because he could again Jake Matthews one
25:47
he got him out of there there's no offense or Buffs about it but like what
25:53
if he got five minutes to recover because you know the ref thought it was a groin shot when it was actually a
26:00
direct hit on the liver and he had time to recover and then he came back and he won I know if you go back and watch
26:06
Paolo Costa's fights I noticed this when I was studying tape on him
26:12
um he all of his Knockouts happen right after a foul
26:17
right after a foul he's a front runner he goes he goes crazy he either hits a
26:24
nutshot or someone nutshots him he gets some time to recover then he comes back and knocks him out immediately it
26:31
happened in like three fights yeah so it's a very plausible situation like you
26:36
can give someone a time to recover that they don't deserve that they don't need and then as they recover they're like
26:43
okay I got my breath back okay this is my last shot he's gonna hit me with that kick to the stomach again and I'm not gonna be able to get away with it two
26:50
times in a row so better knock them out so you know Jake Matthews luckily that didn't happen to him but it's definitely
26:57
something that I feel like uh MMA commissions are
27:02
trying to fix because they have that new rule where it's like if something weird happens the referee will do this you
27:10
know they'll do like that like check out this moment on the tape thing to the guys in the in the [ __ ] the van with
27:18
the cameras and with the footage and everything so they're like check this out something weird happened and then in
27:23
between rounds to look at it and they might deduct a point or something or something weird actually did happen if
27:29
there was a foul like a like a phantom eye poke or like a phantom nut shot and the fighter didn't react but they're
27:36
like uh I don't know so there's being steps taken towards preventing that but
27:42
that is strange that um I don't know once you decide that this is a foul you
27:49
get time to recover there's no going back from that decision even if the ref was able to look at the camera they're
27:54
like hold on hold on no no you don't here you don't now get back in there and flowers defense I will say I've talked
28:01
to a lot of guys that say even just agrees even just like a movement of the cup can just disrupt all your Jewels
28:09
down there you never know it could have been hanging out on the side of the cup
28:14
like like a little thong like one ball on the inside one ball on the
28:20
outside gets hit in the stomach and then the foot moves the cup and just disrupts
28:25
everything listen I want to find this this shot I don't know if it's up
28:31
or not but you tell me that that was not a toes deep to the dude's liver like it
28:37
was well that's the thing it probably was but you learn a Muay Thai if you get
28:43
hurt with something and you even feel a flick on the balls you act like it's a
28:49
nutshot people need to start fixing these cups
28:56
because these cups ain't working I mean there is it's a tactic to cheat is what I'm saying fix them but you can get away
29:04
with it because it technically touched the No-No Zone yeah it's like like I know I I think we
29:12
have separate views on this but whenever I see a woman react to a corn chat I'm like come on like you can still fight through
29:20
that if this was life or death like you could fight through that pain it really just feels like bone on bone to me it
29:27
doesn't feel like [Music]
29:35
and that's what I feel like the the ball shot feels like it feels close to a liver shot than just extreme pain
29:43
no and and I agree on that but I have had a direct knee in training and it has
29:51
completely like folded me over into this positioning hurts in a fight I don't
29:56
know that it would do that in like with the adrenaline and all that yeah I don't know that that would be the case yeah
30:02
but I was in pain no I the pain is
30:07
Extreme but I've actually breaking an orbital so is like breaking a hand in a
30:13
fight and you don't get a time out for that no no yeah I know I broke my hand against Carla's big old rock hard head
30:20
in like the first minute of the first round I had no idea I was there live I had no idea well the corner was like
30:28
don't have your job yeah yeah
30:34
and then afterwards they're like why didn't you tell us we would have changed a thing and in my mind I'm like I cannot acknowledge I can't even think about why
30:40
this thing hurts I can't do that because I just have to like push through it but hindsight I'm like yeah I probably
30:46
should have said something yeah so then I could have like we could have adjusted because I love using my job but the job
30:52
was gone yeah it was no longer effective I have a story when I was uh fighting
30:58
Nina answer off there was a I was there yeah there was a photo floating around you probably remember this where I got
31:05
knocked over by a spinning Hill kick guess where it landed right in the crotch Bullseye and I
31:12
didn't react like I just hopped back up afterwards but I'm when I saw the picture I was like I bet I could have
31:18
milked it I bet I could have like had a second at least they wouldn't have counted it as like her pushing me over
31:25
because big moments score in rounds and it didn't hurt it didn't do anything to
31:31
my badge it was fine um but it did knock me over because I was throwing a kick I was on one leg and
31:37
it hit me right in a good spot to knock me over yeah and I'm like man if I had
31:42
maybe milked it if I had maybe acted like brought attention to the fact that
31:48
it was aimed at the No-No Zone they wouldn't have given her credit for that in the same way you wouldn't give
31:54
someone credit for a head butt if it cuts you you know um but I ain't a [ __ ] like that
32:02
I like this thing can take a pound in but that that's why I always feel like
32:07
you know you can fight through that pain even if it was painful like a sharp like I've taken a knee to the crotch that
32:14
made me walk away in training if it happened in a fight I'd try to name him back yeah you know like it there's a
32:21
difference between that and a debilitating shot to the liver or something that like just makes you
32:26
incapable to move yeah yeah so that's all I'm saying but anyway anyways anyway we don't
32:34
believe you flowers no listen I I honestly I I had some some
32:41
like Sympathy for the guy he was like he just looked like he was in such deep
32:47
water yeah he was he was and he was like playing with his mouthpiece he was just he was given a lot of signs that he he
32:54
was like I'm like I don't want to be here yeah that's what it felt like I mean Jake Matthews is an amazing Fighter
33:02
um I I don't really remember we're seeing flowers fight before so that kind of tells you who was expected to win and
33:09
uh kudos to him to show up to do whatever he could to to get that winner to at least survive but yeah what
33:17
happened what happened uh what people expected to happen happened yes with
33:22
that one yes moving on we have uh Bobby green versus Tony Ferguson
33:30
I know what are your feelings on that well I love Tony Ferguson I was worried
33:36
that he just like didn't have it anymore he's had some really tough battles yeah
33:42
but he showed up like he did even though he got good committed yeah he I mean he looked less volume than like you know
33:49
Tony Ferguson a few years back yeah but he was he was in it the way I hadn't seen him in it in a long time and that
33:56
made me happy to see because I am a fan of his yeah me too I think since the gaichi fight we've been expecting a much
34:03
more uh uh I guess older Tony Ferguson he just
34:10
doesn't seem to have kept up with the new breed of Fighters that have just started taking over and geechi is a
34:17
really like we saw you know last night like gaichi is a stud so after that
34:22
fight we've been kind of waiting for Tony to retire I feel like every time he
34:28
shows up he does have moments but then when he loses we forget those moments yeah like in the Chandler fight he had a
34:34
lot of good moments in that fight but then we forget it because of the front kick yeah you know and uh I'm hoping
34:39
that people don't forget his moments in this one just because of the submission because he was on he was throwing he was
34:46
moving his head he wasn't ducking into stuff he was moving out of the way his stuff and hitting and you know he did
34:53
take a lot of damage but he it was a good performance you know and it wasn't a performance that makes me scared of
35:00
him getting in there again um I do feel like you know he's towards
35:05
the end of his career but you know it I'm not gonna be scared for his life
35:12
if he fights uh another person like Bobby green another person who is kind
35:18
of in a similar position whereas like I have a ton of fights in the UFC not sure what's going to happen not sure
35:24
if uh you know I'll ever get to that spot where I can make a title run but let's let's fight out this contract
35:29
let's make some money um I'm a fan favorite I get the BMF title you know like that I I wouldn't be
35:35
worried about him when it comes to that no I hear that it was an interesting moment when Bobby green was like fishing
35:42
for the submission for the head on arm you know finishing by head and arm and Tony does weird things like he doesn't
35:49
really defend submissions yeah like I was dead no I kind of picture Who had
35:55
who had the the leg lock on him um in was it Kevin Lee was it Kevin Lee
36:02
they grappled a lot I don't know if he liked that though I remember it maybe it was cowboy was it Cowboy I'm not sure um
36:10
but he had he had his leg and he's like twerking and twerking and Tony is just kind of like taking it and he's not
36:16
fighting the hands he's not really like doing anything he's just kind of letting it happen and that was kind of the same
36:22
thing that I saw going on when Bobby green was attempting that had an arm yeah he ended up looking like he was I
36:28
was like is he out yeah is he out is that his way of just like dealing with it but he was
36:35
he was out he was out eventually right what do you think I just don't know how long I feel like that was his body like
36:41
reacting like he was going out in that moment and it's just man it's it's freaking scary
36:48
it um it was just a scary moment I think Tony takes a lot of damage which makes him an exciting fighter it makes him a
36:55
fan favorite it's just um it worries me a little bit well it's almost like Karma
37:01
right because when he was on a tear you had the pictures of everyone who had
37:07
fought him in a row and it looked like the street fighter you lose like accomplished
37:14
like everyone was busted up cut up it looked like movie Magic you know like
37:21
the blood and and everything so now Tony's starting to get those beatings
37:26
thrown back at him and I think because of that he's not afraid of damage he's
37:31
not afraid to take a hit to give a hit because he's been such a a destroyer of
37:37
Faces in his whole career um if anything I think he just feels cheated out of Performing he was waiting
37:45
for a khabib all that time you know he was uh out with injuries a bunch of
37:51
times like when he was on top he was recovering he was rehabbing when
37:56
he was on top and then and it just kind of passed him by honestly yeah and like that's the that's the nature of the
38:03
sport though which is unfortunate but it's um it's hard and again I don't you
38:08
know know what he's thinking or feeling but I mean I don't feel like you're very far off in that aspect and I hope he
38:15
like if that is his mindset I really hope he can let it go because like that that chip on your shoulder can carry you for a little bit but it'll start to be
38:23
coming to like a crevice It'll like start you know forming a Grand Canyon in
38:28
you know in your mentality in your confidence and it can just start just really like taking it out of you yeah
38:35
and you can't come back from that it's like one time yeah because it's not like you get younger yeah it's okay you can't
38:42
redo it angsty yeah but but old and crotchety it's like you gotta let some
38:47
[ __ ] go and trying to fight kids oh my gosh yeah yeah so I'm hoping uh you know
38:52
when he gets back in there it's going to be against a similar opponent um I hate when they try to bring in the
38:59
new Guard versus The Old Guard I always feel like that's uh that's just not fair
39:05
and I think that's disrespectful to the amount of Paving of the way that these
39:12
older Fighters have done so I'm hoping it continues this way and
39:18
you know a few strings together a couple good wins and maybe give them a new guard but let's let that happen first
39:24
yeah don't just like throw them out to pasture yeah exactly back to the Wolves yeah that always makes me sad and like
39:31
I've had thoughts of you know that happening to me or like people that I care about like man like I feel I just
39:37
feel that we all deserve a little bit better you know we get to go out on people that we were coming up with uh
39:43
not just being like like what they did to Frankie Edgar like man that was he was a champion yeah he he was
39:51
completely absolutely amazing in his prime and then to you know
39:57
uh put him out against some somebody you know young and upcoming and like really
40:02
really dangerous and like and you know have his retirement fight on that note was just it was uh Chris yeah that was
40:09
upsetting to me and I think I think the thinking with that was that he could win
40:15
you know in the same way uh they had Robbie Lawler fighting uh Nico price
40:21
like this guy isn't fully developed yet he could beat him he could out prowess
40:28
him but I mean I was worried about it uh as soon as they announced that I was like that's
40:34
not fair I was like pick someone else same and he
40:41
had never shown that kick before either no yeah he hadn't shown that so that was a new thing Frankie and be like that's there yeah
40:50
because Frankie hasn't changed in since he was Champion yeah like he has fought the same way he's he's very true to form
40:57
he sticks to what he's good at and he does it very well but that yeah that was open just
41:04
yeah makes me sad yeah he's still he's still a legend you still have stud though he's still a boy
41:11
just like Chris Weidman um so Derek Lewis threw a flying knee it
41:17
was first move through a flying knee and of course he took off his pants yo that
41:23
wasn't and we were just talking about all right during our last episode how you know it's okay if you know girls
41:29
like flash their boobs and you know it's totally fine again we don't mind seeing
41:35
it but Derek Lewis butcher put your drawers back on you're telling me that
41:41
you weren't impressed by Derek Lewis's six-pack no it was like a four pack at that point
41:47
but it was still there it was kind of when he did the pump you could see the
41:52
lines from it still underneath did you see his uh his post fight press
41:57
conference when they were asking about how his wife likes his ass and he's like man she's supposed to like me for me oh
42:04
it was so cute I really like dirty I think he's just he's hilarious I think
42:09
he's really humble and funny and you know like watching him fight yeah yeah
42:15
he just he keeps it real he's so funny he's so funny and the fact that he just went out there and threw that jump knee
42:21
not a care in the world cup dude and you could just feel how elated he was
42:27
afterwards like jumping up on the fence like taking his pants off just being
42:32
able to just be like it's over the stress that this man seems to go through when he headlines fight cards in Texas
42:41
and then to do that like three times in a row into to lose three times in a
42:46
little badly you know and to come up come back and have this performance I was so happy for him and the guy he
42:54
fought is no [ __ ] joke no he was dangerous yeah I think if he had fought in Texas
43:01
it would have been the same I don't feel like you take you take Terry Lewis out of Texas and he does way better let's
43:07
just keep him out of Texas yes let's just keep him out of there because he's a little stress away there's a lot of
43:13
pressure and he's huge I mean he's big in Texas yeah especially like you know Texans like they have no respect for
43:21
your space like your family is calling you on fight day like right before you
43:27
walk out like family didn't even know about either the family was like Hey I can't get it
43:39
this is not my problem like I don't know if that actually happened but I can imagine just from the
43:46
people that I know from Texas who have fought in Texas I can imagine that being a big burden like wanting to take care
43:54
of all your people because they feel like they can do that they can bother
43:59
you and getting your space no so I'm really happy for Derek Lewis uh I hope
44:05
that he continues in his winning ways I love to see him fly uh more of that more
44:11
of that that was that was awesome yeah yeah so we had it we had also had like another interesting matchup we had
44:18
pahera going going up a weight class and he took on John behovich yes that is how
44:27
I would pronounce both of those names I tried
44:32
um so I remember you asked me the question like how do you think pajera will look in front of behovich
44:39
and I was like I feel like he's gonna dwarf him but you were saying that behovich dwarfed at a Sonia and pajera
44:46
is a big freaking dude he's huge he is huge and he I remember they uh what were
44:52
they saying after he fought um and we'll get back to the decision because it's kind of
44:59
it is a little bit controversial but he was saying oh yeah this was really nice I only had to cut 20 pounds I was like
45:08
bro like oh my God and people
45:13
like ESPN MMA and MMA fight not so much MMA fighting but ESPN MMA loves like
45:19
highlighting these like weird things and they love showing people
45:24
um you know in these weird moments and especially when he weighed in he was showing his like post way in at 185 and
45:32
now at 205 and they're like oh it's so impressive and I'm like I'm like how is he doing this how is he
45:39
able to cut so much weight not use an IV not get busted like this is what you thought it was supposed to be preventing
45:45
well I'm sorry but I just I have an issue with people cutting so much weight we don't know if he wasn't able to use
45:51
use the IV I no that's the ivy thing is now up in the air for a long time the
45:57
ivy thing was banned I remember a guy from tough or no not tough Contender
46:02
series got like uh they're they're got suspended because they used an IV in
46:08
Vegas and just because they wrote it down on a like a worksheet like oh yeah I used an
46:13
IV and then they got suspended come to find out recently IVs are okay in Vegas
46:19
no but it's like but that does not necessarily mean that you will be allowed to fight well but if you get
46:26
them to like say that yeah yeah if you say if you tell the right person that
46:32
you need an IV they'll provide it for you and then they'll check on you to make sure that you're you are capable of
46:37
fighting but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will so there's this weird like loophole and gray area remember when I fought in Vegas last we
46:45
were or it was the time before but we were asking about that and they asked about IVs and I think that we
46:51
asked about it and they were like well it's not necessarily that you can't do it it's just that we'll like commission
46:58
wise commission wise we can but it's usada getting involved yeah that would
47:03
prevent it yeah I think it's a Statewide thing though like I think I think they were
47:09
saying that it it's uh it depends on what state you are in and Derek Lewis
47:15
admitted to having a really horrible weight cut um in his last fight he was at the pi so
47:21
they were able to hook him up to the IVs and he was still able to go out there and fight and I'm like okay this [ __ ] is
47:28
like normal now yeah I didn't know that nobody told me that
47:33
nobody told my coaches that like and it's not that I need them but it would
47:38
still be nice to know oh your person might be fighting 30 pounds heavier exactly the next day
47:46
yeah it makes a difference huge difference yep uh so I feel like uh
47:53
parea definitely was using IVs when he was cut into 185 like he had to have
47:59
there's no way that frame would be able to cut that much and then rehydrate and
48:04
not look frail when he fought like he's he looked just as big when he fought
48:10
arasanga as he did when he fought blakovich like he looked bigger than him and did you see that dump truck oh my
48:17
God I couldn't stop looking at it it was so pointy like it was huge I was like
48:23
why wasn't I born Brazilian I was born in the wrong continent so I
48:29
feel like I have a similar but where if you look straight on it looks like oh
48:35
straight up and down but then you turn to the side it's like yes yes and then if you're behind you it
48:42
does this cute little it like Wing sets yet hey I have a very
48:48
specific angle my I have one angle and if I don't hit it I look flat as a board
48:53
but his thing is so pointy at at a [ __ ]
49:00
light heavy yes it's so pointy it's really it's really crazy how pointy it
49:05
is um I thought he was gonna use it I thought he was going to use it to to hit that I mean again to throw those calf
49:13
kicks he was he was and those calf kicks were nasty I I felt like uh yank could
49:19
have thrown more too like he was having success with it and then I guess he gave
49:24
Brad idea to start throwing calf kicks himself and he was like oh [ __ ]
49:30
see this and like um they're they're like challenging so
49:37
if you throw a calf kick to a really good Striker I feel like they're gonna be like oh yeah let me show you how it's
49:42
done yeah it's like Donna elbow oh that's cute oh I okay let me show you how it's done throwing an elbow and a
49:47
Muay Thai fight you're not used to it don't do it because they forgot that they could throw them
49:53
you just reminded them by throwing they're like oh yeah yeah oh yeah and I'm better than you at this yeah my
49:59
levels are Waypoint here Yeah that poor calf I I have a lot of
50:06
empathy for people who receive calf cakes so what did you think about the decision because when I watched it live
50:13
I was like I don't know about that but when I look at the but I like to go to
50:20
verdict just to see what other people were thinking I like to uh look at the
50:26
strike deferentials um and I don't know it's it's hard to say but I
50:32
felt like it was pretty even in the third until Jan got the takedown he
50:38
didn't do anything with the takedown so when I was watching it live I was like young got one and three
50:44
but it was close so I don't know what did you how did you feel I could have seen it going either way I can as as a
50:52
Grappler as somebody who who likes to watch Grapplers and you know get the takedowns and control time and stuff
50:58
like that I feel like that scores a lot because I feel like it's it's really hard at this level to take people down
51:03
to control them on the ground uh so I could have I could have absolutely given it to him
51:09
but I'm also not I'm not mad or opposed no I'm not but it goes back to like the
51:15
judging criteria like what scores more we need to know yeah because it's not it's not clear it's just not yes pajera
51:24
did more more damaging strikes but he like um he wasn't as like he
51:32
wasn't doing anything on the ground he was he was in defensive positions for a lot of the fight and then you know he
51:38
would have these these big striking moments whereas you know they they look bigger they look more damaging uh you
51:45
can remember them more clearly because they're bigger moments but then if you looked at the time
51:51
um John had over five minutes of control time which is huge in MMA he had you
51:57
know several takedowns even though he didn't do anything with them I feel like they should count for a
52:03
little bit more yeah and the first round was so clear which is why Yan is
52:09
actually ahead of parea on the verdict Square account so it'll be like okay most people thought that Jan won the
52:16
first round so he gets a 10. half the people thought that uh Pereira won the
52:22
third round so the second round doesn't count as much for today because some
52:27
people thought Jan won the second round too which is kind of crazy but some people thought that so
52:34
um yeah it's just hard when you're scoring a fight round by round you have
52:39
two totally different styles two totally different ways of scoring like Jan is
52:45
all like take down heavy grappling heavy when he throws he does do damage but
52:50
he's not throwing with the same volume as perea and then he takes him down again I I really did think that Jan won
52:56
that but you know what it what are you gonna do it was a close fight it was only three
53:02
rounds which I thought was also kind of weird it was such an important fight because winner is potentially going to
53:09
fight for the titles and now that Jamal Hill isn't in there um so yeah there's not much you can do
53:16
with a close fight with big guys three rounds one guy took a break in the first
53:21
round so he can you know beat him up in the second and third and yeah I guess uh neither
53:28
fighter could really be mad either way oh yeah
53:35
yeah it's hard and honestly I every time I watch a fight at altitude I get so
53:40
frustrated that's the thing too yeah I get so frustrated because I feel like it
53:47
just it was such a big factor it's like it's just like having such a huge weight Advantage you know you're cutting a ton
53:54
of weight it's the same kind of Advantage but even more it um and when they're that big I hate
54:01
seeing it when they're watching people fighting altitude and when they're that big you're like damn we really got robbed of a good fight yeah you know
54:08
like that when the sea level cane thing started uh he fought in Mexico City and
54:13
just totally gassed out against uh verdum was it yeah yeah and it was uh
54:19
really crazy to see but we've never seen King Velasquez like that and then it was like well 8 000 miles above the ocean
54:27
that's what happens you know like and you don't realize what it does to you until you're up there yeah and then
54:34
you're just like the sky is falling I feel crushed what is happening like I can't move it's it's
54:40
a horrible feeling so yeah whenever I see big guys I feel like it affects them more because they they're higher
54:48
they're even more altitude is like four thousand and two feet higher for their
54:55
altitude um and it's a lot of body to move so these explosive fights that we would
55:00
have seen we might have seen a knockout if it was at sea level we might have seen a submission if it was at sea level
55:06
it's just like yeah come on bro Beyond looked labored yeah yeah poor guy and I
55:12
I just felt for him yeah I I don't know what the appeal is and having Fighters
55:18
fight in altitude I don't know if this is you know I feel like it's more for you know Hometown
55:23
the hometown guys it was Hometown I don't know who I don't know who's from
55:29
St Louis I mean Salt Lake City I don't know
55:34
I don't know but I just I don't like seeing it yeah it's just another level of torture yes that we have to go
55:42
through pay us more maybe them will be exactly hey for me to move my Camp yeah
55:48
just an extra like 50 Grand into the campaign no problem I'll do it good yeah we'll be good we'll be nice and Frugal
55:54
with it yeah exactly well on that note let's
56:02
take a little long time out uh we bid you farewell to you normal viewers and
56:08
then we're gonna come back with our exclusive content for you fancy viewers
