Unknown creature found at the bottom of Utah's Great Salt Lake; first of its kind in the US

Scientists discovered a new species of nematode, Diplolaimelloides woaabi, living in the extreme, salty environment of Utah’s Great Salt Lake. Previously, only brine shrimp and brine flies were thought to survive there. The worm lives in microbial mats on the lakebed, raising questions about its origins and adaptation. Its discovery highlights the lake’s unique ecosystem and the mysteries still hidden within, especially as the lake faces environmental stress and shrinking water levels.
