Is ASI Part of the Great Filter Keeping Us From Alien Contact?

The Great Filter explains why we have never encountered alien life, suggesting that natural disasters like planetary demise, illnesses or apocalypses are the most likely reason for preventing intelligent life from going interstellar. However, a new paper suggests that artificial intelligence, or more specifically artificial super intelligence of ASI, could be part of the Great Filter.
