Ancient volcano awakens: satellites detect ground rising, cause unknown

Taftan volcano in southeastern Iran, long thought dormant, has shown signs of activity after satellites detected the ground near its summit rising by nine centimeters between 2023 and 2024. While this uplift is small, it signals possible changes underground, such as gas pressure or magma movement. Scientists are not predicting an eruption or urging panic, but the event highlights how dormant volcanoes can still be active and the importance of satellite monitoring, especially where ground sensors are lacking. Movement alone is enough to prompt renewed scientific attention.
