States with the lowest concentration of wealthy residents
Oct 12, 2026
10 States with the Fewest rich People.
Let’s talk about states that the rich folks seem to be avoiding.
A survey done by Charles Schwab asked people what they considered rich. Most people felt it was having a net worth of over 2 million dollars. They also felt you made it out of the middle class if you made over 200k a year or 300k for a couple.
This got me thinking. What % of the United States made over 200k a year making it out of the middle class and into considered Upper Class and by most people's standards, rich.
I went to the Us Census and found this was something they tracked and they were kind enough to break it down by state.
Now, I am using the word rich sort of loosely here. There are many definitions of what could be considered rich. I have seen it explained as someone who makes 3 times as much as the average for their city or state. I have seen it explained as anyone making over 1 million a year.
We are going by a yearly income of over 200k.
