Hey, I'm Jocelyn and this is 5 Easy Meals to Make when you're staying in a vacation rental with 12 or less ingredients
0:06
When you rent an Airbnb or a VRBO, anywhere in the world you want to make dinners so you can save money
0:13
So how do you do that without buying out the entire store? I've got answers for you
0:17
I've got these 12 ingredients and you can kind of pick and choose some of them
0:21
But to make five good dinners, these 12 ingredients will get you all you need
0:27
So you don't have to really buy tons and tons of stuff. And you still get varied menu items
0:33
So for our first dinner anywhere is a roasted chicken dinner. I can get two roast chickens for our family of four
0:40
And we eat pretty much one and then maybe some of the second one
0:44
But I save all those leftovers and I make a whole bunch of meals out of that
0:50
And they're completely different. it's not just having chicken again so I get the two roast chickens I get maybe a
0:56
couple different fresh vegetables maybe some corn or some broccoli or something or whatever fresh at a market and that our dinner is meat and some veggies and maybe we have some bread on the side but you know what we not huge bread eaters but you know when in France you have to do it right so second night dinner is to take all of
1:15
that chicken and make chicken soup I also use the vegetables and I will have bought I have that pasta
1:21
so I'll use some pasta too and we'll have a huge chicken soup um and you know we've got vegetables
1:28
and everything in there so it makes it a little more hearty than just a regular old soup so my
1:33
My third dinner is breakfast for dinner. My family loves breakfast for dinner
1:37
So I'll get a dozen eggs, bacon and or sausage, some kind of breakfast meat that cooks up pretty quickly
1:44
I usually get some kind of fruit and I get pancake mix. So we'll have pancakes and eggs and maybe some fruit
1:51
and some kind of meat to go with it. And so that's our dinner
1:55
And whatever isn't used of that bacon or the fruit or whatever, I'm gonna save all of that for the next day
2:01
also having a dozen eggs my family isn't gonna eat a dozen eggs in one night so I've got extra eggs for other meals later and we'll go into that in just a
2:08
minute. Dinner part four is kind of inspired by all the time that we spend in
2:13
France I make crepes for the whole family and that pancake mix makes it kind of easy You basically just water them down make the crepes but it a great little pocket to put
2:24
all of those leftovers in. So I have the bacon, I have maybe the sausage, I might even have chicken from the second or
2:30
third night that's still good, so I'll throw those things in, and it's just kind of a plethora
2:35
of things. Maybe I've got some potatoes, you know, the fruit from the other day, and so all of that
2:43
stuff goes together and we can have savory or sweet crepes and everybody is always happy to eat
2:48
crepes in my family so that's just a new way of reinventing old foods that are left over from the
2:54
day before. The fifth meal would be pasta carbonara and part of why I do this is because I've already
3:00
used pasta in my chicken noodle soup and you can use all sorts of pastas. It doesn't have to be a
3:06
spaghetti, it doesn't have to be orzo, just you know whatever's around and whatever you feel like
3:10
eating but you mix it in you make yourself a carbonara with that extra bacon and the
3:15
extra eggs that you had on day three with breakfast for dinner. You grate some cheese
3:20
on top and you have a very big very filling meal And then you always got those extra vegetables and things that you may have left over the fruits and stuff from the other meals And you just put those on the side But this way we get five very different things for dinner They all relatively inexpensive and they
3:38
things that I can find anywhere in the world. And maybe I can't find exactly, you know, pancake mix
3:45
but I can always make up a pancake mix with a little bit of flour and things. And so often
3:49
And the kitchens that we find at Airbnbs have those things readily available
3:54
But don't count on it. Definitely get in. See what's already there as far as your spices and things like that
3:59
There may be butter that you don't have to purchase. Sometimes, you know, there's things that are already there in the freezer or there's flour and sugar
4:08
So take those things into consideration. You don't have to haul the food around with you
4:13
And also sometimes get a really great cultural insight into the place where you're staying by going to the market
4:18
and getting things that are really fresh. So I hope that helps you kind of like make a few easy dinners
4:24
save yourself a good chunk of change when you're staying somewhere. Just keep in mind that use those leftovers in a different sort of way
4:32
and make whole new meals with them. So I hope that helps. See you
