Spectacular footage inside a volcano next to boiling lava lake - Ambrym volcano Sep 2018

Volcanologist, expedition leader and film maker Yashmin Chebli (who accompanies our expeditions to Vanuatu) climbed down to the very edge of Benbow's active lava lake on Ambrym volcano (Vanuatu) in Sep 2018. There are only few active lava lakes in the world: their presence requires a delicate balance between heat loss at the surface and energy supply by hot gasses rising from the magma chamber, while the total volume of lava remains more or less stable. The footage was taken from only about 30 meters away from the violently boiling lava lake - the closest the camera would be able to withstand the intense heat radiation for more than seconds.
