I Crossed China by Train in 14 Days! Kazakhstan Border to Hong Kong
Sep 11, 2026
I crossed China by train in just 14 days, traveling overland from the Kazakhstan border all the way to Hong Kong. This epic China train journey began in Khorgos before continuing through the deserts, mountains, ancient cities, and futuristic megacities of one of the world's most fascinating countries.
Along the way, I stopped in Urumqi, Turpan, Jiayuguan, Xining, Lanzhou, Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guilin, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen before completing the journey in Hong Kong. I experienced China's high-speed rail network, conventional trains, railway stations, local food, hotels, famous landmarks, and the dramatic landscapes of western China.
This documentary shows what it is really like to travel across China without flying. From the remote Kazakhstan-China border and deserts of Xinjiang to the mountains of Gansu, the megacities of Chongqing and Shenzhen, and the skyline of Hong Kong, this was one unforgettable adventure.
If you are planning a China trip or want to understand Chinese train travel, this complete overland journey will show you the experience, challenges, costs, transportation, and incredible destinations along the route.
