Reviewing The Southeast Adventure Vehicle Expo!

hey guys welcome back to the live stream today we're going to be going over the southeast Adventure vehicle Expo video

that is getting ready to drop here in just a minute um I want to go through the video and uh

show you some high points of it and then we're going to make the link live you can go ahead and watch the video

so this event uh if you guys are not familiar let me hop on the their website really quick

and let's see here I need to turn some more stuff on there you go here

there we go yeah so I found out about this event at

the Florida van life Gathering and I thought it was going to be pretty cool because

um they have Vans but they also have a lot of other products for the over Landing crowd and those products tend to

kind of fall back into van life um it's essentially stuff that we'd use for

you know use for camping storage um you know making a fire uh cooking food

that type of stuff like utensils and stuff like that but it's more uh the cooler uh more tactical type of

stuff so I know some people are into that and they want kind of more of that type of

style with products in their van so I went to this event um

and it is in Stark Florida

um so Stark is let's see where that is close to

it's been a while since I went down there yeah right outside of Jacksonville

it's got Southwest Jacksonville and uh it's pretty easy to get there so I'm coming from North Carolina so I

essentially just came you know straight down to 77. down 95.

and then Stark uh the weather was incredible it was a really really good event

but yeah check out their website uh it's the the save expo.com

and if you're into over Landing you can bring your vehicle uh to go off-roading they have some

obstacle courses so they have an off-road Trail that you can go on and then they have an

obstacle course uh the RV Paddock there was a lot of you

know Storyteller Vans and uh those groups were there

and the camping area it was mostly the over Landing crowd and vans so I've

parked over there and they've got plenty of room uh the event is definitely growing uh

every year I think they started off with just a hundred campers and then now they're up

to 500. so and then they started with I think 20 vendors and now they're up to

85 vendors so the events it's growing pretty good I really like

the inventors that I saw at this event so these are all the cards I got from

the event so in that video that's getting ready to drop we have one two

three four five six seven eight eight vendors that were interviewed

and we're gonna go through a couple of them so you guys can get a little highlight of what the uh the video looks like

um if you want to look at the exhibitors that were here uh exhibition trailers actually I'm not gonna read all these

but you guys can kind of see the logos here Dometic was there uh

let's see what else

van life Outfitters was there backwood Adventure mods

live more camper vans we did the interview with them

yeah really cool event uh had a lot of really good raffle prizes

and uh yeah it was great it was great so let's hop on over here and check out

some parts of the video

so one of the first vendors that I interviewed was Mo so he's from backwood Adventure mods and they make one of the

more popular bumpers for the Ford Transit and this is the one that actually uh was

put on Thomas's van and they just came out with a brand new

front bumper and it Contours more to the Ford bumper

so when you cut it out it's a it's a smoother transition they also move the d-rings further out

of the way the sensor on the d-ring was a little too or the front

distance sensor was a little too close to the d-ring so they moved it so they wouldn't have any type of

they wouldn't have any type of uh you know sensor issue and there's a little bit more protection in the bottom of the

uh bumper because on a Ford Transit you have that intercooler down there and

even from the factory there's very little protection of the from the intercooler or for the intercooler and

what that does is that's going to give you a better protection as much as possible

so we talked to Mo about that and then we moved on over to

Dometic

and if I really liked what Dometic had here if you're just getting started into van life and you're not comfortable with

putting in you know a full water system into your van something that's uh can be really nice

is to be able to have a water pump that's portable and so essentially what

he has here is he has a Jerry can that has a couple of fittings one is just a

normal drain and then there's a magnetic pump right here on the right maybe I

skipped over it let's get over it maybe I did there we go

yeah so he has this magnetic pump and it's got lithium batteries in it

you just tap it on the top and it'll actually pump from the Jerry cam the

plastic one and then not only that so check that out you can use that for your van you don't have to put in an expensive water system

just to get you going um so it'd be great for like weekend

camping trips just that way you have running water it's really nice to use you know running water to cook clean

doesn't have to be hot water I thought it was really nice

uh then he moves into talking about some other coolers and stuff that he has

or this actually storage um chest coolers and then he ends with talking

about the cfx products so that is their refrigerator

then we hop into getting some nachos

foreign and uh move into our first uh van

interview so we're talking to Chad and he's from drawersystems.com

and he builds custom drawer systems for vans so this is the actual thumbnail of the

video and what caught my eye is the attention to detail into these drawers that he puts together

uh full drawer slide that comes out so you can put all your stuff in there let me move

my face really quick there you go

but you've seen the drawer slide and probably a lot of YouTube videos but having standard drawers on the left side

of it that works out really well just to have some stores that you always knows there don't have to really

organize it and then he actually goes into showing

uh he's got the back of an Astro van well actually you guys will see this in the video

so this is the the finished nice build and then over here he's got an Astro van that's been

chopped and turned into a trailer and so he's just built custom system of

drawers integrated refrigerator so it's a really cool

interview there then we move on to

some outdoor settings what's nice about this is when

I go with my friends and I camp with my van essentially you're gonna sleep in the

van transport all your stuff in it but then your outdoor cooking area seems to be

the best way to do it um I like to do outdoor cooking when I bring my van it's

not necessarily the smells inside the van but you know you kind of are confined but if you're at a campground and having a nice area in the back your

van you can do that and uh you know spread

out have lots of room all right Jamie wants to know when the video is being published

so we're going to publish it right after we go through a couple of these highlights here and it will be live

then next we talked to uh this is

we move over to faster flight let me pull his card out

so our next vendor is this was Lewis from faster flight and

on Thomas's van we needed to inflate and deflate all four tires at the same time so what we did is I went and I think I

the system I purchased was more Fleet um but then I found Lewis who was faster

flight and he builds the same system but it's a little more robust so it has a little bit more uh

less ability to Kink and he has a little bit different Concept in the way that he attaches the

pneumatic fittings but essentially it's a system to air up all your four tires and then air them all down and this is

not just for the overlanding community this is for Van life in general you know

if you're going to go off-road you want to lower your tire pressure enable to uh in order to be able to get more traction

you know maybe Sandy environments stuff like that and you're going to need a system like

this because it just takes a lot of time if you're airing up and airing down

every single Tire on your van uh so yeah faster flight

and what's nice about going to these events is you you find these vendors that sometimes are hard to find I did

not find him on the internet at all and I searched for a couple products so depending on how they're marketing

the product is kind of how it gets to you but going to these events you're going to find

different companies that they may be more smaller company

but make a great product

all right so we talked the drawer systems faster flight

all right let's see who's next

oh this is great so this is Hope and she's from alt route Mills

and I thought this was just a perfect vendor to have at one of these events uh

she produces dehydrated meals so you can see them all on the left hand side and

you couldn't pass the smell of this booth it smelled so good the the food was excellent uh all kinds of

dehydrated meals you can use these for obviously over landing at this event but

then just hiking and camping sometimes when you're in Van you don't want to get out and always set up your cook area or

cook inside your van say you're taking your van to a top of a trailhead

and you're gonna hike up for the day um there's not a lot of options in

dehydrated Mills I go hiking all the time and you know you have your you have your Mountain House

um and others but there's like two or three and they're kind of bland they're not that nice to eat uh you wanted

something different a little change of pace these Mills are incredible

um they've got a ton of flavor so she made a couple of samples for me I tried them and they were awesome so I'm

definitely looking forward to ordering some of these uh I think they actually came up to Asheville North Carolina and

are selling these at the REI and so yeah I want to go up there and

check them out so we do a full interview with her talking about her story and kind of how she got started

uh she was a through hiker and that is kind of the beginning to her story but

I'll wait to you guys click on the link and check out her story in the full video

so the next tour we do is we are back with livemore Camper vans

so we met uh these guys at the Florida van life Gathering and they had a couple

Vans um and this is Marianne she's gonna give me the tour today

uh so she was with a potential customer right there and we were just going to do a walk around I didn't do a walk around

at the Florida van life Gathering so we're gonna hop up on this roof uh this van is their latest build they've got a

full rooftop deck the medic RTX 2000 AC unit and solar up top

and then in just a minute we're going to go inside and check out their build there was one van that we did

let's see here

yeah so you guys got to check out this van um this van again their Vans feel very

very homey it's very stylish at the same time uh nice clean you know bright build but

you have the warm tones of the nice slotted ceiling and this is an extended Sprinter so this

is a 170 so you got from room for a full bed and then you get a little dinette area

and they actually have a shower that they built into this van

it's a huge shower you can also use it for storage as well

so check out that interview then we also do a quick peek at the back of the van

just showing how they have their water system organized and then how much room they have in the

back for for storage

then we hopped over to a really popular Booth so this is the dimmer box

and the dimmer box is essentially Bluetooth speaker case but it has

waterproof storage so you can open it up you know put your phone in there and you

can actually charge your phone inside the case while it's being you know protected from the elements

so that is a really cool uh this was very popular he was selling

a ton of these at the show um all kinds of different colors they can do personal personalization they do

hydro dipping for all kinds of stuff like that and laser engraving so that's pretty cool

next up we have a local company and this is Meg from

Asheville Vehicle Outfitters so pretty close to to where

I'm at and I wanted to show you this truck uh

it's not van related but there's a lot of components in here that you can pick up and put in your van you got the Molle

panels you have the Tilt and slide out you know cooking area surface you can put that at your slide out door at the

rear of the van um there's a propane uh furnace inside

so like a little uh little stove uh they have the you know cfx Dometic

air conditioning air conditioning good Lord uh cooler

and uh you know water storage so it's similar but the products are pretty good

see where did I there it is right there so check it out

um let me move from my face over here so this uh Newport by

uh Dickinson this is a propane stove or heater

and it heats up this whole entire cab some van lifers actually use this in

their van um some people don't like it because it looks a little intimidating to put a

gas-fired heater intervan but they are really cool they look like a mini

fireplace that's pretty neat

all right and then the next group we went to was Moxie vanco so the van on the left we did an interview uh tour

with that van at the Florida van life Gathering so we skipped that and we moved over to

their uh next build which is uh grid

gridtrucks.us so that's more of the Expedition style

than um and we walk through it and it's pretty

cool so I'm gonna zoom in here

so it's got a lot of the features from the systems that they use so like

the Wilderness band kits but they have these routered you know inlaid laminate with the mountains looks

really cool

got the slotted ceiling and so a lot of the same type of accessories that you'd have in a van build are in here

that's a really cool build out

these tires on here are humongous it's a 335 80 R20 with bead locks

some other things are getting kind of popular are the winter campers and RV uh we

didn't take a tour with anyone they do vans as well so there's some Vans over there on the left there was a

storyteller um I just walked in this Ember trailer

and these are kind of the semi-off-road trailers they actually have some type of a suspension package on them

but pretty nice for a trailer

nice kitchen uh it has a skylight and then at the back here you can see they have a little

bit of off-road suspension so you could take it in some interesting places

some pop top Vans and then down the very left is the van

life Outfitters they had two vans

yeah and that's pretty much uh it with all those vendors so we're gonna go ahead and let's see here

list to start from so you're a diyer and there's there's so many parts out there

uh it can kind of be overwhelming once you start to look for parts for your

build you find more parts and then it can get confusing which ones to pick so

what if you can have a guide or a list of curated items that I have personally

bought over the last three years that you could choose from in an organized way to help you with

your purchases so that's what I've created it's called the van build cheat sheet

so there's a link you guys can click on so when you click on this link what you're going to do is put your name and

email address and it's going to deliver it right to your inbox so what does this sheet look like and how can you use it

so when you go to your inbox after you've signed up it's going to look just like this I'll move my head out of the way

but this list is going to have over 250 curated items that I have personally

bought through Amazon over the past three years now why is that important well three

years ago I was buying more DIY friendly parts and then as I grew into

professional van building there were different parts that I bought all the parts are great but these are in

the list so that you guys can see them all they're also organized so for example

the first category is going to be cargo storage

next we move into electrical so this is anything from solar panels fuses fuse

block marine grade electrical items for example like this marine grade

uh duplex and Triplex wire

then we have you know Blue Sea Systems parts that I like to use I love Blue Sea

Systems then we got into Fasteners so any of the 80 20 stuff that you saw me working on with Thomas's van

is in here all the psycho head cap screws that I used stuff like that and

then we get into Hardware uh it's like this revise Shelf these are the soft close hinges that I

used on my personal van so there's stuff like that

HVAC these items include the uh

diesel heater so this is the Chinese diesel heater so this is not like the Webasto or the S Bar this is the one

that I have in my personal Vim so it is on the entry level part of the list as

far as van billing goes um you also have the max fan

everybody's very familiar with that so that's the one I have in my personal van uh then we get into insulation kitchen

items for example if you want to know what type of induction stove I use

you can click on the link right here

Roofing these are hard to find so these are the roof glands that I use to pass through

solar wires or electrical or even the lighting on top of the roof

and so we used we used all these on Thomas's van the nice part about this

list is not only are you helping out the channel but at the same time it's giving you a

quick link to Amazon so that you can actually see these products so look on the right you can see anytime

that you hover over here you can actually see the part before you go to Amazon so you're not going back and

forth moving on down we have our solar so

anything from like the Z brackets that I use I use these all the time on the roof

racks so they're very compatible with 80 20. as far as bolting into

the roof rack and then we have um cables

most recently is the solar connectors so being able to extend

the solar cable on the top of a van because when you get solar sometimes

you're only working with like a fixed um cable length and you might need to

customize that so one thing you can do is come over here to the list click on the

um Bogue RV solar these branch connect uh

not the branch connectors are one piece to combine and then you have the solar connectors with the spanner

and that is going to allow you to cut splice and then make the new connection

last but not least and most importantly is the tools section

if there's anything on this list that I think is going to help you guys out it's the tool list so

the tool list on here is the rivet gun that I use it's the

crimper for the pro PEX to be able to crimp it um it is hole saws uh it is

um crimping tools there's all kinds of things on here that

if I had this list when I first started it would have made things much easier so

instead of having to wait one or two years of research you can just download this list

and it's going to show you everything that I have in my toolbox that I got from Amazon

and specifically the Amazon list because it's just the easiest way uh

to to find a product and get it to your house um there's other tools that I use and as

time goes on this is a living document so as time goes on I'm going to be

adding to this list so you're always going to have the most updated list I

have right now probably 10 more items that I want to add to this list um that I really think will help you

guys out yeah and then final finally does a water system so you can actually see the sea

flow uh water pump that I use

off-road 16 gallon uh undermount tank

um I guess I could actually show you what that looks like

in case you guys are interested in that for next week so agile off road

all right not affiliated but giving you guys some excellent information here uh

agile off-road uh so so what I've been doing is oh yeah

Peter I'm ready for your question

yep put that question in there I'm gonna get to it uh so what I've done is over time I've

been combing the internet I always look for new parts and I look for companies that I like but don't necessarily have

Transit Parts yet and I kind of keep my eye out and just last month I found out that agile off-road

uh if you go to their Transit shop and you come down to

uh let's see exterior yeah Transit shop exterior

this is the only undermount tank made for a Transit that I know of right

now and it's their 16 gallon Ford Transit underwater underwater good Lord

undercarriage water tank now why is this special well one

it's hard to find a custom fitted tank that is low profile for an all-wheel

drive van I say all-wheel drive because the whole point of an all-wheel drive Vantage you want to take it off-road potentially

but if you have a tank water tank that's hanging down and like almost scraping the ground there's no reason to even have the

all-wheel drive so finding a tank that is low profile comes up underneath the van and actually

has the straps to bolt it in there is a game changer um so the good value it's 16 gallons uh

that's excellent capacity so we're going to be installing this next week so

look forward to that all right let's hop it over to Peter's question

same thing about using some air gel insulation in part of my van have you ever heard of people using that as a

seven or about air okay Arrow gel last year

I know of this product

I guess it's similar to 3M thinsulate I'm pretty sure

is it yeah Aero jail that's what they use yeah it's a Fireproof

material

so I guess my question is are you using it because

it's you're able to buy a bunch of it um

maybe a good deal or something like that so you're you that's the reason we use it versus like a 3M or a uh

havelockable I guess that would be my question

see I think I think I saw a YouTube video

yeah let's see

yeah that that is definitely a higher r value than 3M for sure

uh I guess my opinion was I have not used it before um I've watched a couple of videos on it

uh but it was more related to uh

it being you know it's fireproof properties I don't think I was watching a video on

the insulation insulative value of it I'm gonna have to do more research on

that but um my quick opinion would be if you're able

to purchase that and use it um it may be maybe a good option I would

have to research that more

I will say just from going from my personal van and the

the lack of insulation I put into it to

the installation we did in Thomas's van um he has an all glass van so that uh

does make it really challenging to insulate that van well however we did a really good job insulating his uh

ceiling and then any cavity in the van we put as much High block as we could put in it

um so I have I don't have that much insulation in my van

I have a ton in the roof so the roof to me is like the most important because that's where the sun's going to come in

um and kind of bake the van or you know it's going to be cold and

then the floor but

yeah Peter I have to do some more research on Aero gel as far as like the the rolls of that

um and if you have a link to maybe what you're purchasing I could research that

a little bit more

yeah I guess what I'm looking at right now is just the Amazon stuff

let's see

ah okay so is this uh what you're talking about

yeah two and a half feet by five feet

wow yeah 7.3 hmm

I've heard about this product but I have not related it to Vans for some reason

I think I was watching some fireproof video and that's how I know the Aero gel

name yep as far as it's uh r value

you know fire resistance sound isolating water resistance moisture resistance I mean this looks like a

really good product for for bands

and it's only what like a quarter of an inch thick is that what you're buying is a the

quarter inch version I know this is less than a quarter inch 0.2

hmm

yeah it sounds like a good product um and for anybody else listening uh I

wouldn't worry too much about um this is just in my experience uh not

living in my van but spending weekends at a time in the van uh as long as you have adequate

ventilation for the hot months

good heating for the winter time uh just my personal opinion the

insulation is not always a make or break um but if you can find something that's

really good like this product for example that r value is impressive

um right here let me zoom in yeah so that r value is impressive uh

you know just trying new things this looks like a pretty cool product

but even with the best insulation in a van uh the number one thing is moisture

control and that is making sure you know you can kind of think of you as

being a human in a in a tin can you know breathing in and out so there's there's you're creating this uh moisture

environment and being able to evacuate that moisture and keep

everything nice and dry um you want to make sure that system's in

place um you can have a ton of installation but if you don't have that airflow

that intake and exhaust um

I don't want to say it doesn't matter how much insulation you have but you would have good airflow and then if

you can have insulation that's really robust then that's even better

yeah Peter uh yeah stay in touch on the chat in the future and let me know if you do decide to buy it

um and then you know maybe have the insulin installation process was I'd be be curious to see um see what it was

like it doesn't seem that um expensive so five

so if we look at Havelock

I don't know how to spell that 150

let's see this was that's residential I'm trying to think

what we got for Thomas's so 100 square feet

that's 16 by 48 2.

1648 2. 2

it's 16 2.

that's 48 .

so that's four feet so it's pretty close to the same roll

you're getting 20. for 150.

well so just a rough math don't quote me on this but so

it's 750 per bet versus 39 a bat so that would be

it is more expensive but maybe you can use less of it

because the R value is so high and I imagine you would just use like

uh 3M 90 I mean not 90. uh super 77 spray

adhesive to to install it it is thinner and yeah you probably

could use less of it yeah Peter let me know

uh the reason I want to give this show is that uh where was I

they're doing an adventure series um and they have a bike race so I think there's going to be just a not only a

lot of people there but there's gonna be a lot of stuff going on as far as uh in the in the area so they're kind of

merging two events so you got the adventure van Expo and then this uh this bike race

I don't know about it you're looking live as I'm trying to figure out about this bike race I read

about it earlier um

yeah so one of these adventuring Expos we're going to be we'll be going to one that's not local

so I don't know if we'll fly out to one of these shows uh yeah if you guys want to want to see

a specific Expo you guys be a great audience to ask which one you would look forward to uh

seeing a a video done about checking out the event maybe we'll do like a poll

you guys vote to where we fly out to that'd be kind of cool

oh I know what I can do uh I did not show you guys uh

the the photos I took of the van rims we went through everything but we didn't

talk about [Music] um

I have some photos on here that didn't show shares what I guess that's what I'm saying

yeah so this is what the van uh looks like right now

so we painted the rims we've got the BFG 255 70 16

rims on I mean tires on the rims on the factory rims

The Next Step besides the water tank that's going to be under mount under mounted I was gonna I'm paused on the inside

because the freight that I have coming in for some interior components

um it's just been delayed so maybe next week we'll we'll get that in

but the front bumper you can see here I've got a new front bumper that's going on it's just a Ford factory bumper uh

it's nothing nothing fancy but when the van was uh

uh when the semi-trailer brought it on over here this the straps I think they

uh bumped into something so this right here

it's just superficial it's just a plastic there's nothing wrong but there's a plastic cap that goes here

and then there's a bumper and so I'm just gonna put a new one on and then when I do that we're also going

to replace the front grille here and we're going to put on the uh

Ford Raptor style Grille so just like Thomas's van

um and then I've got a vinyl graphics company local that we are going to do a matte black vinyl on the

hood and then on the rear this rear section

this panel uh we're gonna do a custom topo map with the

Odyssey custom bands logo at the bottom of it and that topo map it's going to be like

the rig well design so if you guys have gone to rig well

they are actually starting to make components for Ford transits so I'm very

excited about that uh however the uh

uh they're expensive um the base cabinet is uh 955 dollars

but the system is really amazing

um you can it's like a you can mix and match all this stuff

and so I'm I'm really on the fence between this

system and then the Flatline vanco system that I'm uh looking to purchase

because these little shelves on the edge you can use them for

um like stashing your cell phone so let me see if I can uh

Zoom here so they I think they can bolt into the adventure

wagon I need to ask that question but look here on the edge so on the let's see if I can zoom

yeah right here this is what I like so this this little shelf on the edge because when you're in

bed and you want to lay down your lay your cell phone down somewhere if you want to have like a little Nook to where you can charge it and just have a place

for it I think these little corner areas are these little add-ons are pretty cool

again I'm kind of 50 50 right now um just budget wise on this

let's see but let me get back to what I was talking about so if we go to shop and we go to Transit exterior

and we go into rig wrap

so you can right here you can go on and you can purchase these uh vinyl

prints and they they're specifically designed

for flare space flares with this window cut out but you can opt out for that the

only issue is if you buy this for my situation you're going to get the full graphic but it's going to be about an

inch or two inches shy on the surrounding profile

so Mike could look a little odd so I was holding off until I could get a local

uh Graphics Company to actually design this for me and they sent me a quote and

it's a very reasonable quote so um and that includes installation

installation so uh yeah they're gonna do a rendering up for

me for this back side um but I do like how the the bottom is like this

so let me know your comments guys if you're watching this and you might be interested in

uh buying something like this but over here on the right you can you can customize it

yeah but instead of going with this because it's pretty expensive I think it's like 1250 for the full kit

including the hood so that for graphics pretty expensive I mean you can almost

get a partial wrap for that much uh yeah look forward to to that that's
