Unboxing The "Waterfall" Smartphone

We have a new phone here from Vivo. It is the Nex 3 5G. Now I've got a bit of history with the Nex devices

I think I looked at the very first Nex device, in fact. Even before it became the Nex, it was called the Apex

They're on version 3 now, as you can see on the side of the box. There's a graphic on the front here, as you can tell, which appears to indicate what the camera layout may very well be for the device

At least that's what I'm speculating. Unboxing experience continues here. As you can tell, very organized

Next three over here, there's the device. They've included some Vivo earbuds

and a fairly substantial power brick, 44 watt charger capable of quick charge

These are the wired earbuds. So these earbuds feature an inline remote

There's the device, also included in the package, USB type C cable, SIM tray, and various other paperwork

Now, what's significant about this device is that it features a waterfall display

the maximum screen ratio possible in a smartphone device and as you can tell here not many buttons This gives you haptic feedback actually this textured region It seems to me that you going to interface with this device strictly through that waterfall display

There we go. Okay, so it's booting up. Top here, you'll notice it still has a headphone jack included

It's going to have this motorized pop-up camera. This top switch, I suppose if this tactile button on the side malfunctions

or maybe if the battery is completely dead or something like that, you still get a tactile power switch in the top section here

Triggers the display and off. Now, this gives you your first glimpse at the actual screen-to-body ratio on the device

and the waterfall display as you'll notice the screen curving around the edge there

So the actual buttons still remain in the side section here. They are not physical in the sense that they're moving, but it has a haptic style feedback

to indicate that you've pressed it. So Will just mentioned to me the camera layout features a 64 megapixel main camera

It also includes a telephoto and an ultra wide. Yeah there we go The device also features an in fingerprint scanner So that work if the screen is off but it also work if you trigger the screen on first So the OS on this device of course

it's a skin on top of Android. It's called FunTouch OS. So by default, it's in this gesture mode

as you can tell. As you'll see here, the navigation can be altered. You can either go

with the gesture layout or you could go to a more typical back home and multitasking button

All right I've just turned on full brightness. This is obviously AMOLED. Do you have the resolution

there Will? 1080 by 2256. Part of that probably has to do with this waterfall design that's going

on there. The waterfall extends far enough over the edge of the phone to obscure your view of the

side bezel altogether. I have a reading here from Will. It is 93.6% screen to body ratio

Official numbers provided of course by Vivo and Will. You've probably seen this now on different

devices It been around for a bit It a motorized camera of course This one a little wider than the previous version as you can tell right there but symmetrical planted in the center of the device

Includes a flash. It's kind of hidden. Maybe I'll give it a try

Will's telling me it is a 16 megapixel selfie camera. You can examine the beard hairs for yourself

This is a pup at 1x, although it thinks it's a cat, according to the AI

this is the ultra wide and this is the 2x okay this is brownie and that's the zoom as you can tell

and of course we've got the ultra wide completely different point of view here

and the 64 megapixel main camera so some examples there for you so there you have it the latest

from Vivo, the new Next, the Next3 5G. 5G phones still very scarce here in Canada, but the rest of

the world has many options available in the 5G department, including ones that feature something

called a waterfall display. Boom
