Power BI - Row level security

In this segment of the video we are going to see what is role level security

So guys, a role level security will allow you to secure your data at role level with security filters based on each role that you have created

So in order to create this role you simply have to go under the modeling tab and under the modeling tab you will find manage roles

The moment you click on managed role it will allow you to create roles with the help of a task

the help of a DAX expression which controls that what each role can seize what

Alright guys? So once you have published this report onto your Power BI services at that time you can

assign each user what role he has to follow. So let's go ahead and see how to apply this role level security in our practical approach

Hello friends and welcome in this segment of the video I'm going to show you how to

provide role level security in Power BI service. So let's get started off. We simply have to go under the modeling tab and under the modeling tab you will find this security group

If you're not able to find a security group, that means you need to update your Power BI desktop

And how you do that? It's very simple. You simply have to go to the Power BI website and out there you will be able to find the latest version of PowerBi desktop

Make sure that you download that and after you download it, you will be able to see this security group

Now, before I get started off and see what we are going to do, let me tell you what is the security level that we are going to provide

Now, out here in this particular scenario, you are able to see that I have different regions of India, that is different states of India and what is the revenue generated by different states

All right. Now, this is the piece of information that is available with everyone

But what we are going to do out here is that we are restricting the people or the employees of Gujarat that they will be not able to see the revenue generated by different regions or the different states and same goes vice versa I would not like to have the people from

Karnataka to view or see the revenue generated by the rest of the states all right for providing such kind of security I will go under the security group and under that I will click on this managerial tabs the moment I click on this manager

manage roles a new window will come up into picture and out here you have to create a new

rules so basically I will simply click on create role and I say this will be applied to only

the employees from the Gujarat region and if you see I have this table which is associated

in this with this report with this particular report this is the table that we will be

referring to and I'll simply click on this three dots now what is applying the

RuralL security it's just to add a filter so I will say add a

a filter to the states that's right so the moment I click on states our DAX

expression is built out here and I have to be sure that what kind of security

that I'm going to provide so I'm going to say that the people of Gujarat will

be only able to see the report that corresponds to Gujarat itself all right so

this is the security that we have provided now we have given the DAX

expression the second thing that you have to do is save this expression so I

simply click on save now this is Roe level security has been applied if you would like to see it how it is done so you

have to go under this view as rules so the moment I you click on view as roles this is

the filter that we have applied already I simply have to select this Gujarat and hit

okay the moment I hit okay you can see the people from Gujarat will be able to see

only the report that is corresponding to Gujarat itself and not the rest of the

states and that's how you provide row level security in power BI hopefully
