Power BI - Time intelligence

Hello friends and welcome. In this segment of the video we are going to see how time intelligence work in Power BI desktop

So guys it's very easy to yze the time-based model in the Power BI desktop

So whenever I see a time-based event at that time the modeling tool of Power BI desktop automatically generates a field that helps me to drill down to the year, quarter, month or days

Alright guys, so let's move on to the next slide, which says whenever you create a table visualization

which totally depend on the date field, the power via desktop automatically includes

a breakdown by time period. What do I mean by that? Whenever I have a date field

I will be able to break down in the time period in such a way that I can move to the years

the quarters, month and day wise as well. Now whenever we have the visuals

by default, it goes to the year level. But it's not necessary that we have to make the ysis on ear level

We can also go to the next level by using the drill down button

which you will find on the top right corner of your visualization

Out there you'll be finding a field which says drill down which will help me to move on to the next level

Now this is one way of going to the next level. Another way of going there is if I have the bar chart ready with me

and if I click on or double click on any of the bar out there

it automatically moves on to the next field That means it will move from year to quarters Alright now you can drill down to the most granular level and you can get your ysis done by that as well

The moment you read on the granular level and if you want to go again back to the upper level

you can simply use the drill up button and that we will find on the extreme left corner of your screen out here

So the moment you click on drill up, it moves to the upper level. And as simple as that, this is how the time intelligence

work in our Power BI desktop version. Let's get a better understanding of it, how what are the different

option that we have in this drill down and how this time intelligence work in our practical approach

Hello friends and welcome. In this video we are going to see how time intelligence works in Power BI

So let's get started off. Now before I get started off, let me give you a visualization that let's say that we have a data set in which I would like to get a column chart in which I have

would get the information according to the year wise so that it shows me or displays me the data year wise

Quatowise month wise and day wise all right so I need to create a hierarchy out here in which I'll be having all this columns all together and

the respective revenue alongside with it all right so let's get started off onto my right hand side of my screen I have already create a date hierarchy as we have already seen in our previous video how to create hierarchy and how to manage the columns inside it

We have I not wasting any time on creating the hierarchy again so I have already created this hierarchy in which I have if you just Collapse this ring I have the hierarchy according to year quarter month and date wise alright so I will simply select this hierarchy get it on my screen and also the revenue along with it so I simply click on revenue as well and get it in a tabular format as of now okay as you can see the figures a little less so we go ahead and increase the font of the figures so

now all right just give you a moment right this looks better in which I can see all the

figures so you can see I have the years the quarters the month the date and the

revenue generated on that particular date all right so this is how it's simple

it looks like now we will go ahead and create a column chart a stacked column

for the it so I get a visualization like this in which all right let me just

expanded this a bit all right so you can see in different years what

is the revenue that has been generated out here all right this is a visualization

based on different years now if I want to see it quarter wise that for particular

rear what is the quarterly report out there so if want to do that I need to drill

down in this report and how I drill down it's very simple you select that

particular year which you want to drill down let's say year 2002 all right and I

simply have to right click on it and there's an option call us drill down

This same option can also be seen under the data tab which you can see under the visual visuals tools right out here you can see the data action you can that is a drill down button but this is the most simplest way I can drill down so I simply right click on it and I simply select drill down the moment I drill down it is giving me a

report for year 2002 in different quarters that is quarter one quarter two quarter two

quarter three and quarter four so all together I have all the report at one go

if I want to further clarify it according to month wise so I'll simply right click on any of the

quarters and I said drill down more so it will give me the figures of April, June

and May that is basically nothing but my second quarter all right if we further

drill down out here you can also see the bifurcation according to different

date wise but let's not go there as of now it's very simple so I'll simply drill

up all right so it is giving me the quarter one again I'll drill up so it is

giving me the yearly report just give it a moment all right so as you can see out here I have this report into a column chart format in

which I can see different years altogether and its respective numbers right guys

so this is how the time intelligence work in power BI in such a way that it

understands that what is the date and depending on that date it class further

segments into different years so different quarters different month and a date-wise report can be also

be seen using the time intelligence theory all right guys so this is how it works in power
