Hello friends and welcome to Tutorials Point
0:03
In this segment of the video we are going to see how to merge queries in PowerBia desktop
0:09
So once you have uploaded the data or imported the data with the various data sources
0:16
the most basic and the most essential task that you will be doing out here is to merge queries
0:22
Alright, now there are two ways of merging the queries. Either you can merge the queries or either you can append the queries
0:30
So the one question that must be running into your mind right now, that what is the purpose
0:34
of combining this queries or what is the purpose of merging these queries
0:39
The answer is quite simple guys. Now let's take for an example that I have one data set or let's say for example I have
0:45
two data set in which I have one column which is common to both the data set
0:51
So while the time of projection, what we'll be doing is we'll be creating a different
0:55
projection for one table and a different projection for another table. not to just create one projection by combining this queries in such a way that the data
1:05
representation or the report generation becomes an easier task for us Don you think so guys So this is what the purpose and this is what is the meaning or what is the agenda of merging the queries in PowerBI desktop
1:18
So how to merge this queries in Power BI desktop? We'll be having a better understanding of this in our practical approach
1:26
Hello friends and welcome. In this video we are going to see how to merge queries in Power BI
1:32
So let's get started off. in our previous video we have already learned how to append queries this time we will be learning about how to merge queries using the practical approach
1:43
Okay, so let's get started off now on to the extreme left side of my screen you can see there are different queries
1:51
So we'll be searching for two queries with some common columns I'm as of now on the product queries which has the manufacturing column so if you search under the manufacturing queries you also have a manufacturer column
1:59
So if you search under the manufacturing queries you also have a manufacturer column
2:04
So we'll be combining these two or merging this two using the merge queries button
2:09
So I will simply click on the merge queries drop down menu
2:14
Now there are two ways either I can merge a query in the existing query or we can create a new query and it will be creating a new query and this merge will happen in the new query itself as of now we be just clicking on
2:29
merge queries okay and we have to the moment I click on this merge queries this
2:35
window will pop up right in front of you in which you can see the product
2:38
query in front of you now it is basically asking me you have to merge query with
2:43
with with which query so if you click on this drop-down menu you can see I have this manufacturing query so I'll simply click on this
2:51
manufacturing query as you can see we both have these two columns so I will
2:55
simply click I want to what do you say combine this with this particular
3:00
column so we have these two columns being selected now the moment I select these
3:06
two columns now you can see the selection has matched out of match 2 412 out of the
3:11
first 241 2 rows okay now if you see at the bottom of this particular window
3:17
It is asking you for the join kind if you click on this drop-down menu you can see there are so many joint
3:23
types that we can select from as of now we will just select the left outer all the first matching with from the all the second So that kind of joint I will be searching for so I simply select this and let hit okay and see what happens the moment I hit okay another column has been created now
3:43
it is basically showing you if I click on this any entry it is showing you the
3:47
manufacturer ID and the column it has matched up to right so if you click on any
3:52
other it is as of now you can see the manufacturer name and the manufacturer ID
3:57
So these are the two things. It is basically showing the record that has been that is being common in these two queries. All right. So this is very simple how to merge queries in Power BI. All right. If you can simply go under this column and you can see there is a expand button. If you simply click on this expand, I just want these to use original column name as prefix. So I will simply hit OK. Now I have the manufacturer ID here in front of me. And if I'm on to the
4:27
right hand side the very last column is the manufacturer name so I have the idea as
4:32
well and I have the name of the manufacturer as well all right guys so this is
4:37
all about how to merge queries in power BI hopefully you like this video
4:42
see you until next time
