It is most often caused by infection but can also be due to dehydration or a scratch on the eye. Treatment includes topical antibiotics, artificial tears, and systemic antibiotics. 3. Blepharitis – This condition involves inflammation of the eyelids resulting in redness, swelling, crusting, and itching. It is usually caused by bacteria or allergies and is treated with topical ointments and antimicrobials. 4. Cataracts – Cataracts are cloudy spots that form in the lens of the eye and lead to partial or complete vision loss. They are usually age-related but may also be caused by trauma, infection or genetic factors. Treatment involves surgery to remove the cataract and replace it with an artificial lens.
