Explore Lake Placid with an Olympian

On Main Street in Lake Placid, you can definitely feel the Olympic spirit as you pass

warmer Olympic venues and may even spot an Olympian or two. Many Olympians train live and retire in Lake Placid, including two-time Olympic medalist

Okay, so you could walk, you could ski. Yeah. Exactly. It was amazing to grow up here, you know, as an athlete

There's so much support in the community, and people are just so excited about anything athletics and anything Olympics

A lot of the other kids that I grew up with were also, you know, they were at the Olympics as well

So it was a cool thing to be a Lake Plast of Olympian because you're there with 10 other kids that you knew growing up

which is where else does that happen? Yeah, I'm not at all intimidated to ski with you today

I'm just, you know, I'm a beginner, so. I'm a retiree race

Whiteface boasts one of the highest peaks in the Adirondack mountains. Andrew takes me up to see the views

We're on Little Whiteface Mountain. Yeah, this is Little Whiteface. This is kind of our main mountain up here, you're a big white face

which is, that's where the Olympic downhill and all that stuff started

It was way up top there. Snow clings on to everything here. Yeah, yeah

It makes it pretty The town of Lake Placid shimmers below and on a clear day you can see over into Canada and Montreal

Nicknamed War Horse, for his all guts and glory, approach to skiing

Wyberth excels in the super giant slalom, or super cheap, meaning he's fast

Normally. Today he's likely gritting his teeth a bit as we plow down the mountain

But we're here to chat and enjoy the slopes, not to race. Thank goodness

And in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, took home to silver

He honed his skills on the very mountain worst game today. Once we reached the bottom, it's all about rewards

It's unique out here on the East Coast because it's really the only place that you can get this type of vertical in this part of the world

Until you get out to British Columbia and stuff like that, you're not getting mountains that are on this type of scale
