Analyzing the Reddit Boycott
Jun 23, 2023
1,000s of the most valuable subreddits have closed their doors in protest of Reddits new API policy. The app will begin charging third parties for access to its data, prompting most popular mirror apps like Apollo, Sync, and Reddit is Fun to halt operations. The unusually high price at which Reddit has valued their API shares and authority taken over gratuitously provided data has raised flags for long-time users, encouraging some subreddits to close indefinitely if no change is made and overall projecting a loss for the company.
