dollywood officials have just announced
0:01
yet another expansion to dolly parton's
0:03
pigeon forge empire
0:04
as many are aware area staffing
0:06
shortages plague seviera county and the
0:09
problem is only worsened in recent
0:10
months as area attractions and
0:12
restaurants struggle to find and retain
0:14
employees
0:15
this is due in large part to a lack of
0:17
affordable housing
0:19
but dollywood's latest project in
0:21
partnership with holtz builders aims to
0:23
solve that problem with a 20 million
0:25
expansion in the form of affordable
0:27
housing
0:38
the residence hall style 136 000 square
0:41
foot four-story building will be able to
0:43
accommodate more than 750 seasonal area
0:46
employees
0:48
the building will be located on
0:49
dollywood grounds
0:51
standard rooms will accommodate four
0:53
residents with four beds
0:54
amenities include individual lockers a
0:57
private bathroom a large fridge and a
0:59
desk
1:00
additionally a common kitchen gathering
1:02
space and laundry facilities will be
1:04
included

1:11
you're looking at a four-story building
1:12
it's in a u-shape it's a total 140 000
1:16
square feet under roof uh four floors
1:18
the first floor being
1:20
offices and for staff
1:22
the top three floors are all residential
1:24
housing every project is is exciting but
1:27
when we get to come down here in pigeon
1:29
forge and especially with dollywood
1:31
and even over the top of that and again
1:34
we're going to always talk about our end
1:35
user and that's really the residence of
1:37
these facilities that's what we always
1:39
have to keep in mind and not let that
1:41
get kind of in the shuffle
1:43
and when we do that things go a lot
1:45
better
1:46
this is an exciting day
1:49
you have no idea how long we've been
1:50
waiting for this i mean truly
1:52
more than a decade of trying to figure
1:54
out the right solution to get housing
1:57
for our summer college programs and and
2:00
this uh finally cracks the key on on how
2:04
to get it done and justify a building
2:06
for that summer need
2:08
guests are going to be happy because it
2:10
gives more service to them you know one
2:12
of the things we say is that the
2:14
enthusiasm of our guests can only rise
2:16
as high as the enthusiasm of our
2:18
employees so when our employees are
2:21
happy because they have a
2:23
stable place to be and it's close to
2:25
work
2:26
they're going to be happier when they
2:27
come to work and they're going to
2:28
translate that into the service that
2:30
they give our guests
2:31
the other program we have
2:33
is with sevier county
2:35
southern hospitality internship program
2:37
so if you're a college student who needs
2:40
an internship
2:42
find out what internships are available
2:44
we have
2:45
we we have opportunities in just about
2:47
every field that we
2:48
provide here at dollywood so it's
2:50
accounting it's marketing it's
2:52
operations it's culinary it's hr
2:55
just anything you can think of that we
2:58
do as a business there's an internship
3:00
available for that and through the ship
3:02
program
3:03
those interns will stay in this housing
3:05
as well
3:07
so severe county has always had a
3:08
problem with
3:09
available housing
3:10
especially through the cove pandemic
3:12
even before that when you can see that
3:14
through the fires
3:16
so we've always had this issue this work
3:18
force crunch where we felt that we had
3:21
more jobs than people to work on and
3:22
that's why you see more than 50 or about
3:24
50 of our workforce comes from outside
3:26
the county so to get people here and
3:28
give them housing affordable housing to
3:30
live and work in our community is such a
3:32
huge thing and it's a wonderful thing to
3:34
see that a private company like
3:35
dollywood takes the initiative to invest
3:37
in housing for their employees but not
3:39
only their employees but also employees
3:41
that can work outside into the community
3:43
so it's a great day for pigeon forge and
3:45
for dollywood and severe county
3:46
businesses
3:48
the following seasonal workers may be
3:50
eligible to live in dollywood's new
3:51
residence hall
3:53
students working at dollywood through
3:55
the u.s summer work travel program
3:57
students working at dollywood through
3:59
u.s college campus organizations like
4:01
campus outreach navigators and young
4:03
life college interns working on specific
4:05
assignments at dollywood for educational
4:07
credits and employees of other area
4:10
businesses and similar programs through
4:12
organizations like sevier county's
4:13
southern hospitality internship the
4:16
majority of the project is scheduled for
4:17
completion in may of 2022
4:20
the ground floor will be unfinished when
4:22
residents move in but will be completed
4:24
soon after
4:25
what do you think about dollywood's
4:27
latest project let us know in the
