Hi everyone, it's Karen from the Georgie Grandma
0:13
Welcome back to my channel and welcome back to week nine of the summer body challenge
0:18
Now if you don't know what that is, it is a challenge between myself and three other YouTube ladies
0:24
at Busy B. Marie, at Maria Crocker and at Tina's Talk Time
0:30
And we got together and decided to do a 10-week summer body challenge
0:34
to try and motivate each other to lose weight, get fit and healthy for summer
0:41
But it's not just for summer, really. It's to try and get fit and healthy for the rest of our lives
0:47
So to motivate each other and hopefully motivate anybody watching as well
0:52
We're all doing different diets, different. healthy eating plans so I'll drop the links to their channels below so you can go
0:59
and see how they're doing and every week we talk about a different kind of
1:03
healthy eating topic we share what we've been eating that week we share if we've
1:09
lost weight or put weight on and things like that so I hope we've been enjoying
1:15
the series and I can't believe this is week 9 already it's gone so fast the
1:20
healthy eating plan that I'm doing is a low carb diet a low carb diet a low
1:24
carb way of eating and that was mainly because not just because I wanted to lose some weight but
1:30
mainly it was because I needed to get my diabetes under control type 2 diabetic and it is the
1:37
my last HBA 1c blood test which was on 30th of March was way out of control highest it's ever
1:45
been so I wanted to get that under control so I had my last HBA 1C blood test done on the 16th of
1:54
June so roughly about eight, nine weeks after the 30th of March, I think that is
2:02
So I'll share the results with you at the end of this video and you can see how that's gone
2:07
But this week is been, it's been a different kind of week, it's been a funny kind of week
2:12
because I've been away this week. We went to stay in a tree house near Penrith in the Lake District and there will be a
2:20
vlog coming of that so watch out for that soon. But it was also my birthday this week
2:26
so I knew I was gonna go off track. I knew I wasn't gonna stick to low carb all week
2:33
But I've planned for that. As long as I can get back on track
2:38
then that's fine if I go off track for a few days, as long as I don't go mad
2:45
So that's what I've done this week. So I did have a few things that have been not low carb
2:52
I've had a couple of, cream teas so you know tea with with the scorn and cream and jam and all that I've had some cake I've
3:02
had some chocolates I've had some prosceco I had fish and chips one day so I did go I definitely went
3:10
off track but like I see I knew I was going to so it is what it is and it will reflect in my
3:17
way in later on in this video but because we were in a tree house because it was
3:23
self-catering. It did make it a little bit easier and I did have some things that were low carb
3:30
We did take some things with us and bought some things that were low carb. So breakfasts I stuck to the
3:37
low carb things. We had some berries with yoghurt. We had eggs and some low carb sausages, that kind of thing
3:51
So I stuck to it for breakfasts. We did have a barbecue one night where we had vegetables vegetable kebab so we put some onions some peppers some mushrooms on skewers and barbecued those and I also had some barbecued salmon which was the low carb
4:10
and I didn't have any bread or anything like that with it. So that was good, but I did have
4:14
chocolates that day, so that was the bad bit. So self-catering does make it easier to stick to low carb
4:20
when you're away. But I think, you know, as long as it's only once and, you know, once every so
4:27
often, it's not that bad to go off track as long as you then get back on it when you come back
4:33
and don't continue the slippery slope back to the way you did eat, which I'm hoping I can do that
4:39
It is Friday to day when I'm recording this just a hour before I'm about to upload it
4:46
which is very last minute. But I've only just come back this morning so I didn't have a lot of
4:50
time so I'm hoping I'll ease myself back out of eating the the rubbishy foods over the
4:58
weekend and hopefully on Monday I can get straight back into it. Now this week the focus was on
5:05
meat free and dairy free which is a little bit different for me than it is for Marie Maria
5:12
and Tina because I don't eat meat. I've been pescatarian for about eight years now
5:20
When I first stopped eating meat, I stopped eating fish as well
5:26
And I did that for about two years. But it did get really difficult, which is why I started to reintroduce the fish and the seafood
5:35
But I still don't eat meat, haven't eaten meat for eight years. And it is a struggle
5:41
I do think it is a struggle. I know a lot of people these days go for meat-free days, you know, for health reasons
5:49
for ethical reasons, for helping save the planet reasons. Apparently, cows produce a bigger carbon footprint than travel does
6:01
So, you know, if you can help to eat less meat, hopefully that will help reduce that
6:06
I don't know. I'm not an expert. I'm not a medical professional
6:10
I'm not a science expert. I'm just me doing my own thing. So I haven't eaten meat for my own reasons
6:17
which I'm not going to go into because I don't think they're not. is the place to do that
6:23
So I've had to find ways of getting around that over the years
6:26
because I did like eating meat, you know. There's nothing I like nicer than having a pork chop or, you know
6:34
a nice roast dinner, something like that. But if you want to do these things
6:38
you have to find ways and means of getting around that. And one of my favorite meals was always like a chili
6:45
a chili con carne or a spaghetti bonnese. and for a long time
6:50
I tried different kinds of meat-free mints to make those with and none of them seemed to work for us
6:58
I found meat-free mince to be very spongy and not very palatable for me
7:04
anyway I'm not very keen on corn products I have to say I don't buy very many of them
7:10
but I did find some meat-free mints that meant that I could enjoy a chili con corny
7:16
in a spaghetti bowl of it. spaghetti bolognese and that is Vevera mints. Now that is the best meat-free
7:25
mince I've found on the market since I stopped eating meat and it makes a lovely
7:29
Tilly con carne it's not spongy and it is it probably tastes the most like real
7:36
mince that you could probably get or that I've ever tasted. If anyone has had a really
7:40
good meat-free mince they think is just as good let us know in the comments
7:45
below. So I do buy the meat free vera mince quite often and we make chilis and
7:51
bolognese, you could make like a low carb shepherds pie and things like that with it
7:57
So that is really good I also like the the vera schwoma kebab meat as well Nothing like cab meat really but it does taste quite nice
8:07
And I think I've showed a Vivera kebab meat meal on one of these videos
8:15
So that's nice. I also eat the Richmond meat-free sausages. You know, sausages make a nice, quick, easy meal
8:25
You can have it with salads. You can have it with eggs. You can have it with a tomato sauce and vegetables
8:31
So again, I found it difficult to find a meat-free sausage that I really liked
8:37
In the Richmond ones, when I came across those, I was like, are they're really meat-free
8:43
And yes, they are really tasty. Yes, these things, the Vivera mince and the meat-free sausages, they are processed
8:51
But you've got to pick and choose your battles, I think, you know, especially when you're trying to lose weight and you're trying to lose weight, and you're
8:57
trying to stick to no meat and you can't do everything so uh you know i do have some processed foods
9:04
and not terribly you know processed there's not there's not hundreds of ease and you know terrible
9:10
things in them but yeah i think you've got to pick a battle so i do have some of those um as well
9:16
with the food i eat i also eat a lot of salmon um smoke cod some people would argue that that is
9:24
still meat but I think again when you're not eating meat if you just have a meat free days you know
9:30
and you don't eat meat every now and again then it's probably not quite as bad but if you're not
9:37
eating meat at all I think especially when you're doing low carb you've got to introduce some good
9:43
fats and things in and some healthier things into it and fish is the easiest way for me to do
9:48
that so I did reintroduce fish and seafood into my um my way of eating
9:54
And I do love some and I have to say it's nice put in the oven
10:00
I put it in some foil and put in the oven with some spices or herbs on and it just makes a nice quick and easy meal
10:08
So yeah, meat-free meals consist of the plant-based products that I've just talked about and usually fish
10:15
We also wanted to talk about dairy-free this week. I never really drank milk, cow's milk, before anyway, but now that I'm low carb I don't drink cow's milk at all
10:29
I drink almond milk and I never actually drank a glass of milk
10:33
I don't like the taste of it so I still don't drink a glass of almond milk either, but I use it for protein shakes
10:41
If I do have a low carb cereal I'll use almond milk on it
10:44
I never have dairy-free cheese or yoghut or cream. anything like that purely because when you're doing low carb you do need the good fats and
10:54
those kind of foods do include the good fats. Maybe you know vegan cheeses and cream that are
11:01
dairy free do still have the same kind of vitamins but I haven't looked into it. If anybody
11:06
knows that you know they are as good of a protein source or a vitamin sauce than the non
11:15
than the dairy ones, let us know in the comments below. So because I've been away this week
11:21
I haven't got a lot of pictures of meals to show you or anything like that
11:25
So I'm hoping this video is going to be okay and people find it interesting
11:34
So here is the way in. I'll just put the picture up here
11:37
I didn't video it, it is just a picture. And I got weighed quickly when I came back this morning
11:43
And as you can see, I have put three and a half pound. on. I had lost seven pounds altogether. Put three and a half pounds on so I'm back to losing
11:51
three and a half pounds, which is still fine over nine weeks. It's still a loss. I haven't put weight on
11:58
and I did really expect to put weight on this week So three and a half pound It is what it is Hopefully I can try and get some of that off next week So stay tuned to our last week to see how I did overall
12:11
But the one thing that I did want to share this week, and the one thing that was the most important thing for me
12:17
and that was to try and get my diabetes under control. So on the 30th of March, my HBA-1c result
12:26
and this is the blood sugar levels in your blood over a, it takes an average over eight weeks
12:32
and it's supposed to be, normal HBA 1C is around 42 and on the 30th of March mine was 84
12:40
and that is the highest been, highest it's ever been ever since, you know
12:45
it wasn't even that when I was diagnosed with diabetes so it was really, really high
12:49
So I had it taken again on the 16th of June and I think that works out at about eight weeks
12:56
eight or nine weeks after the 30th of March and on the 16th of June
13:00
my HBA 1C was 62 so I'm so happy with that it has come down a lot
13:09
I'm halfway in between what I was and in between it being a normal level
13:16
so I feel like if I keep doing what I'm doing if I keep doing the low carb
13:21
then I can really bring that down you know hopefully I can get that down
13:25
into the 50s, maybe even into the 40s, I don't know. But I think if I keep doing what I'm doing, it's only going to go down
13:35
I am still on metformin, so that will have an effect. But you never know, maybe if I can get down lower
13:41
I can come off that medication altogether. And I haven't, I'm not doing keto
13:47
I am doing low carbs, so I'm sticking to under 130 grams of carbs a day
13:52
Sometimes I'm way under that. Sometimes I'm near the 130. I would say I'm probably on an average
13:57
I'm around the 70 grams of carbs a day. And I'm not, I don't feel restricted
14:05
You've seen the kind of things I've made, you know, keto chocolate cheesecakes and things like that
14:10
Mug cakes. I'm eating, you know, healthy foods. If you want to go back over the previous weeks
14:17
some of Body Challenge videos, you can say I'm eating decent food
14:21
I'm not starving myself. occasionally I will go off the healthy eating plan and I will have something I may have a
14:28
takeaway or I may have a chocolate you know a bar of a bar of chocolate what I do do on a Friday
14:35
is I have a hot chocolate from Costa so I'm not sticking to it completely I am you know
14:41
letting myself go off track a little bit and it hasn't really affected what I've been doing
14:48
I have still brought that you know my blood sugar levels down so I'm really
14:52
happy about that. So for me, that eclipses the fact that I put three and a half pounds on this week
14:58
the fact that I did get that HBU on C down. So next week is our last week and a focus is on
15:07
outdoors. So I'll show you some photographs next week of my trip to the Lake District this week
15:14
because it was nearly all outdoors. But I will talk about some other things, you know
15:18
exercise now does and things like that next week. And it will be the last week, like I said
15:24
next week. So we'll get an overall view of what weight I lost. And also, if the others lost weight
15:31
overall as well. So that has been a little bit jumbled today. I feel like I hadn't prepared
15:39
for this at all because I had been away and I knew it was going to be rush. So I hope you found it
15:44
interesting. I hope you picked some tips up from that and I'll see you again next week with the
15:51
10th week of the summer body challenge but also look out for my vlog of the week in the street house
15:57
So thanks so much for watching. I hope you found it interesting. I'll see you again soon so bye for now
