I fell off the weight loss wagon so this low carb update is going to be an honest catch up of where I'm at and what I'm planning on doing to get back on track.

Hi everyone, it's Karen from the Jordie Gromwell. Welcome back to my channel. If you're new here, welcome. It's good to have you
0:11
Now, today we're supposed to be a motivational, low carb weight loss type video. But I don't know that's going to be very motivational
0:23
It's going to be a very honest chat about where I am at the moment with this
0:30
For anybody who is new to my channel, I've been doing a, trying to do a low carb way of lifestyle
0:41
We did 10 weeks with the transatlantic housewives. He did a summer body challenge and I think I lost
0:47
half a stone and, you know, I got really into it and I was doing well and I have done low carb before
0:54
and done really well on it. Now for people that don't know much about the low carb diet or
0:59
or the keto, you know, diet, there has been research done, I've got type 2 diabetes
1:07
there has been research done where low carb is the best diet to follow
1:14
for people who are type 2 diabetic. Eating carbs raises your blood sugar
1:21
And my blood sugar was getting out of control, so low carb was the best thing for me to try
1:26
And I got my blood sugars down from 84, down to 62 and I was doing really well
1:33
Now on a low carb diet, you don't eat more than 130 grams of carb as a day
1:38
So you're basically really cutting down on bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, you know, cakes, crisps
1:47
practically everything that, you know, you would eat, which I would eat before I was doing low carb
1:55
I would eat too much of. So, I mean, that's the idea
1:59
And on the low-cove diet, you eat a higher protein. So you're eating lots of, I don't eat meat, unfortunately
2:08
which makes it even more difficult. So you try to eat fish
2:13
So I'm eating more fish. Things like tofu. I can't think what else I'm eating, but cheese, cheese and eggs
2:23
Cheese, eggs, tofu. Vivera mints, which is a, like, plant basements. So things like that
2:32
You're eating more protein. And you're also eating higher fat, but good fats
2:37
So, you know, full fat Greek yogurt, double cream. But you obviously can't eat a lot of the double cream
2:43
because it's got lots of calories in it. You're eating avocados. So you're eating more of the good fats
2:51
That's just a brief synopsis of what a low fat diet is for anybody who didn't know
2:56
So where am I at now? Well, on my last video, I did a grocery hall and I did a menu plan
3:06
And I said, right, I'm going to stick to this menu plan. I'm getting back on it
3:10
I think I had put two or three pound on on the last video I did since the end of June
3:16
since the end of the summer body challenge, I'd put two pound on. Well, in the last two weeks or however long it's been since that video
3:25
I've actually nearly put half a stone on. I don't know why I'm
3:31
I don't know why I've gone back to the way I was eating before
3:35
I haven't totally gone back to the way I was eating before because I'm still not eating, I don't buy bread
3:41
I'm not eating crisps, I don't buy chocolate bars, but I am eating a lot more The cakes have crept back in I started to eat cakes again I buying bags of salted peanuts
3:57
which are good for low carb, but not if you eat the whole packet
4:00
because they're high in calorie. So I've been eating more of those. And because I stopped working full time at the end of July
4:08
and I'm now working for myself at home, I'm picking. I'm picking all day
4:15
if I'm engrossed and editing a video or doing a video obviously I'm not eating but in between times
4:22
so say you know you get up from the computer or anything right I'm going to have a cup of coffee
4:26
I'm picking I'm picking at everything there was even one day where there was nothing to pick at
4:31
in the house but I had a box of I think there were cocoa pops left over
4:37
from when the grandkids had stayed and I was getting a handfuls of the cocoa pops
4:42
and eating them and it's it's becoming quite stressful and quite frustrating that I just can't get back on the low cob
4:55
I have good intentions first thing in the morning and then it just all goes, it all goes to hell by mid-morning
5:05
I know the kind of things that trigger these binges because I do binge eat
5:12
you know I may sit for half an hour having a cup of coffee and I'll eat like if I bought the
5:20
you know the chocolate callow cakes I'll eat the whole lot instead of eating just one packet
5:26
or if I've bought the Aldi ones instead of just eating one I'll have a whole packet of three
5:31
I'm eating like a bag full of nuts and then I'm going hunting for something else so I tend to do that
5:41
when I'm sitting having a cup of coffee, when I'm sitting watching the TV, I associate that
5:47
with picking. So I know the kind of things that trigger us, but I don't know why I feel the
5:54
need to do it. So I've dieted, this is a very rambly video, by the way. I've kind of been on a diet
6:03
since I was, I'd say since I was 18, 19 and I probably wasn't fat back then. I think I was about
6:09
nine stone, 10, something like that. So in size 12, maybe pushing a size 14 on occasion, but I
6:16
wasn't big. And the more I dieted over the years, it worked while I was doing it, and then you'd
6:23
fall off the wagon and you'd put the weight back on plus another half a stone. I'm sure some of you
6:29
out there know what I'm talking about. And the same thing has happened
6:33
over and over again for the last 40 years. I mean, what's that saying
6:40
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again
6:44
and expecting different results. And I think that's pretty much what I've been doing with diet
6:50
I know the low carb does work and that is the diet or the way of eating
6:55
I need to stick to for the rest of my life. If I want to keep my diabetes under control
7:01
try and keep the neuropathy that I've got under control because I don't want to lose the use of my legs
7:12
I want to be fit and healthy. I want to be able to see the grandkids grow up
7:17
I don't want to end up being bedbound or something or losing my eyesight or having kidney problems
7:25
So I do need to get the diabetes under control and keep it under control
7:29
and I know I've said this so many times before in these videos
7:33
but I've got to be honest, if it not working I got to tell you it not working It not working But it not to do with the diet because I do enjoy the low carb diet I told you Warren was trying to do this with us and he is struggling with it as well
7:52
He's not diabetic but he is overweight. And it's just it is a good diet because when you do it properly
8:00
when you eat low carb and you cut out all of the, you know, the high carb stuff, you don't crave them
8:07
reason. I don't know, you know, there's a physical reason why that happens. But when you don't
8:13
need carbs, you don't crave carbs. So I need to stick to it. It's the reasons that I fall off
8:21
the wagon, you know, the reasons that I want to pick. Why am I doing that? You kind of use, you use
8:29
excuses, you think, so was my son's birthday a couple of weeks ago. And it's like, oh, well, you know
8:35
he's putting on a, you know, a little buffet spread in the house for his birthday, we'll go
8:40
And you can't not eat the stuff. I'll, I'll just eat that, and then I'll get back on it tomorrow
8:46
And, you know, to be fair, he's really nice. He's like, he's so kind
8:52
He even asked us, you know, is there anything that you can eat
8:57
And I just said, just do anything. You know, just do what you would normally do
9:01
I'll work around it. But, of course, you don't work around it. You just eat what's there
9:05
So you make the excuse that, oh, there's a birthday coming up, or there's a holiday coming up
9:12
or there's a party coming up, or Christmas is coming up, or there's a weekend coming up
9:17
or there's a day with why in it coming up, basically. You make excuses for why you can't stick to it
9:26
But I'm going to have to find some way of sticking to it
9:31
I don't suppose it's any, there's no harm in, you know, eating carbs occasionally. I don't think that's going to hurt us. But for me, it's similar. I know it's
9:46
not exactly the same, but it's probably similar to somebody who is addicted to alcohol. You know
9:52
they take that first drink, they want another drink. So for me, taking that, eating that first bar of
9:57
chocolate or eating that sandwich with bread just makes me want more. So it's easier just not just not
10:05
to have them. So what I thought I would do is, I used to go to a business networking group 10, 15 years ago
10:16
And I met somebody there who I now know well, and she was a lady called Anne Morrison, or she is a lady called Anne Morrison
10:26
And she is kind of a counsellor, that kind of thing. And she gave me this, how to stop being an emotional eater
10:35
And this is a, this is how long ago it was. It's still in CDs, DVDs, whatever you want to call them
10:45
And it's a, it's a course that you work through. It's all about cognitive, behavioral hypnotherapy
10:54
So there's exercises to do. There are some hypnotherapy sessions in there that you listen to
11:01
And you kind of work your way through them. and you find out why you've become an emotional leader
11:09
When she first gave me this, I says, oh, yeah, that's great, you know, I'll work through it
11:16
And I chucked it on me bookshelf and I never looked at it
11:20
And I think I picked it up maybe three or four year later and I listened to about half an hour of it
11:26
And I just thought, yeah, that's not me. I not an emotional leader But recently I been thinking Yes I am an emotional leader If I think about it you know I eat when I stressed I eat when I bored I eat when I happy
11:42
and I eat the wrong things. So even when I'm watching TV, if I'm watching something
11:50
I mustn't be that engrossed in them because I feel the need to eat. So, you know
11:56
it's a say, I'm a bored, you know, am I just? not into this program. I have found that if I watch horror films, you know, scary films
12:04
I don't eat. So maybe I should just go on a horror film diet. But yeah, I am an emotional
12:12
eater. I find myself, you know, in the last week, I find myself stressed that I'm not bringing
12:20
any money into the house because I've stopped working full time and I'm trying to build my YouTube
12:27
business and my blog. So I'm not really earning anything. So I'm stressed about that
12:33
And I don't know whether that's made us eat more. Maybe it has
12:38
So I thought I would try this properly. Now, this is available in an audiobook on Audible as well
12:51
And I've downloaded that to my audio book account. I'm not affiliated to this
12:57
I do know Anne personally. I trust her. I know what she does works for people. So I'm really going to give this a go
13:06
If I put the link below just in case you want to go and have a look at it. I'm not saying you should
13:11
This is just what I'm going to try. I've tried everything else, you know. I know what I'm supposed to be eaten and where I'm not supposed to be eaten
13:19
And after 40 years, if that hasn't sunk in and stuck, is it ever going to? So I might as well
13:27
try this. So I'm going to, like I said, two weeks ago, I was going to start bringing
13:33
a regular fortnightly videos, which I am. I did think about it. You know, I've put weight on
13:39
I'm doing rubbish. You know, people are going to be disappointed in us. But, you know, we
13:46
I think a lot of people are in the same position. We all try to lose weight. Yes, I do want to
13:52
lose weight by I'm doing this more for the diabetes. So hopefully there's some people out there who
13:57
or in the same position who will find this useful. So over the next few weeks, once a fortnight
14:05
I'm going to be doing one of these videos, a low carb, weight loss, emotionally eating catch up
14:11
and I'll tell you how I'm getting on with this course. If it's working for us, the kind of things it's talking about
14:18
and whether it's a help. So I hope that wasn't too rambly for it
14:25
My videos aren't usually quite that. rambly, but I just wanted to get something up today, which is Thursday. I'm doing this on Thursday
14:33
morning. And like I say, I did think about this quite harder about whether I would do this video
14:39
But I thought, right, just do it. Just let people see you know, warts and all. This is me. This is
14:44
where I'm at. So I hope you find it interesting and I'll hope you come back in a fortnight
14:50
Actually, I'm going on holiday next week. A week today, I'm going on holiday. So let's see how I get on with that
14:57
So I won't be bringing you the video. I will be bringing you the video in a fortnight's time because I'll be back from holidays
15:06
So I'll let you know there how I did. And probably won't be listening to this while I'm away
15:11
But I will listen to some of it before I go and when I come back. So, yeah
15:18
So I hope you found that interesting. That's all I've got for you today. I'll see you again soon
15:23
So bye for now
