Public Fridges with free food in Germany

Alright we found another one and it's right here

Hi guys welcome back to the channel and today we are finding free food in Berlin

now a lot of you guys probably know about Oliol because I bang on about them all the time

the food sharing app now i found the german version of olio and it's called food sharing

now this helps reduce food waste by distributing food to other people who may need it so say i have

a loaf of bread in the house or a pot of yogurt or some fruits or just random foods in the house

that would probably otherwise go to waste i'll just come on here stick it on there

to show other people, the rest of the community, that they can come and rescue this from going to waste

Right, so at the moment, half of all the food waste in Germany comes from the household

So you and I. Sorry, is there some food in there? Yeah

Now, a great way to tackle this would be to share your surplus food with the community

Now, there are three ways this works. One, food baskets. So just looking on the map, you can see a lot of food baskets around

Now, these are people offering food from their homes, food that would otherwise go to waste

so they offer it on there for other people to come and rescue so we click on

this one and it says bread radishes and broccoli we click on another one and it

says vegan porridge which yes please actually I'm gonna message her see if I

can get me some vegan porridge. Alright. Inquire about food

Okay, so we sent that off. Wait for a reply. We might have vegan porridge for breakfast

And that's how easy it is to fare dividers. Now these are set locations around the city where people can visit to either leave food they don't want or rescue foods that other people have left

So we're going to go around and check some of those as well. Alright, now the fair divider is supposed to be around here somewhere

It says something about a blue door, so I'm guessing it's that one

And then there a passage through the blue door to the fair divider which should be somewhat like a community fridge which I very excited about

okay how amazing is this now this fridge is filled with bread baguette pastry and then this one

has some things in it but this is waiting to be filled by you guys so you see all those dots on

map those can be 10 times more with the help of you guys you guys can get the food you don't need

in a house that would probably go to waste stick it in here for someone else to make use of eh

brilliant hello are you coming to the food sharing oh okay no no never mind

Oh, look at someone coming to make use of the food that someone else, you know, would have otherwise thrown away

This is perfect More people need to use this, more people need to get in here, fill up this fridge as well

Why do you use food sharing? I'm using it? Yeah Oh, because I like the bread

It's much better than some licorice that comes from the corner around

And then you help to reduce food waste as well. Yes. And you help to save the planet

And I feel like it's a present for me. Oh, wow. Yes. Okay

to be closed for some reason uh let's look for another one all right so vegan porridge lady still

hasn't replied me so I'm guessing it's all gone now the post was from a few days ago so it's

probably gone through the system and been discreeted already so we're gonna forget about that one and

just keep searching. It's crazy how quickly it gets dark over here. It's five

o'clock right now. Four o'clock to you. Alright we found another one and it's

oh have you come here as well yeah we were just interested what it is so it's a food sharing

fridge and it's just over there you can either put food that you have no use for yeah that's

going to go to waste and someone else can come and rescue the food so it doesn't go to waste

oh so I think I think all these are part of it as well what are they

are these all to be rescued? I think all these clothes are for rescue as well

unless they just I can't read the signs so I'm not too sure but

alright so I think it's actually a sandwich because it says something something tomatoes

so I don't know if it's plant-based I can't read the title I don't know what exactly is in there so I'll just give this to someone who needs it

I'll break the chain actually I'll be the chain in between the fridge and the person who needs it how about that

My taste is not good enough. Okay, so there's definitely something in there that I probably won't be able to eat, so I'll just offer this to someone who needs it

Here you go, mate. Cool. Thanks man. Here you go. Now obviously not everything can go in these fridges

So you can't put in raw meat or fish, products containing raw eggs, self-prepared meals or processed meals

open products, open yogurt cans and milk cartons and sausage packs, food that are expired, baked goods with pudding or cream filling

Yeah, I mean they're pretty detailed with what you can put in there

Now it seems like a really good system in place. The only thing now is it needs more of you guys using it

Because you go to some locations, there's barely any food in the fridge. You click on the dotted directions on the map, it says this location is cancelled, this

one's not in use anymore. And it needs more of you, more of us, rescuing food, sticking it on there for other people

to rescue, helping to reduce food waste, helping to save the planet, helping to feed bellies

There's so much we're all doing. Proper high-tech security on these vending machines

They were barred up and everything. Thank you It weird there no barriers anywhere here

Everywhere is just open. What's the deal? Civilization. okay now the last place we're heading for the day is not a regular fair divider it's a public

fair divider and it's open a few days a week and on the weekend today at 8 p.m. now this one i'm

everyone's standing waiting for the president to bring this stuff I guess

who come together and help rescue foods that would otherwise go to waste

and by doing that are helping to save the planet so what more could you really ask for
