Picking a winter jacket shouldn't be this hard, but somehow it is. Too many options
0:06
too much marketing, and not enough honest answers. So I did the homework for you. I went through
0:11
hundreds of reviews, looked at what people loved and hated, then narrowed it down to the 15 best
0:16
winter jackets. And if you find something you like, I'll leave links to all the winter jackets
0:21
in the description below. First up is the North Face McMurdo, which I ranked as the best parka
0:28
jacket. It's North Face's longest coat packed with 600 filled recycled down and fully waterproof
0:35
dry vent shell. And it's hitting about mid thigh and built for extreme cold. Now many wearers say
0:42
they feel comfortable at around 10 degrees Fahrenheit with just the t-shirt and a light
0:46
mid layer. Plus the removable faux fur, hood rough blocks wind and you get tons of storage with dual
0:53
entry hand pockets, concealed chest pockets, and internal pockets. That being said, this coat is
0:59
chunky, not packable, and overkill for mild climates. But when you face harsh winter conditions
1:06
that's exactly the coat you want. So if you're looking for something that stands up to serious
1:10
deep freeze weather, then the North Face McMurdo is an excellent choice. Up next is the Shot NYC
1:17
wool blend which I ranked as the best peacoat and this brand has been around for over a hundred years
1:23
since 1913 and it's synonymous for its leather jackets but that's not what it's on the list for
1:29
it's the peacoat and this jacket is made for people who care about long-term durability above
1:35
all else and besides that you can also wear this in below freezing temperatures and feel fine just
1:41
make sure to layer properly as for the style it's classic think navy officer vibes you'll
1:47
look sharp whether you're going to dinner or just grabbing some coffee. Still, this coat has some
1:52
serious weight to it. Made of 80% wool, 20% nylon melt and blend, it weighs up to 32 ounces. And it
2:00
also needs to be dry clean. And if you get it soaked, it takes a while to dry. But if you're
2:05
looking for something that screams timeless while keeping you warm, then the Schult NYC wool blend
2:11
is a lifesaver. Next, we've got the Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer, which I ranked as the
2:16
best down jacket. And at just 9 ounces for a men's medium, it's insanely light but still packs some
2:23
serious warmth with 800 fill RDS certified down. And it also stuffs into its own pocket so you can
2:29
easily clip it to a harness or just toss it in your pack. However, the fabric is thin and it's not
2:36
waterproof, so you'll need a shell over it in heavy rain. And people say that the cuffs are a little
2:42
loose which lets some heat escape, but if all you care about is portability then nothing
2:47
beats the Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer. Next is the Columbia Pike Lake 2, which I ranked as the best puffer jacket
2:55
And this is one of the warmest budget options with a cozy sleeping bag feel
2:59
It packed with thermometer synthetic insulation and an OmniHeat thermal reflective liner which bounces body heat back at you And it also features an adjustable hem velcro cuffs and an insulated hood with draw cords
3:13
Just be aware it runs large so you may need to size down
3:17
However, for casual winter wear, commuting, or just staying warm in freezing temperatures
3:22
you can't go wrong with the Columbia Pike Lake 2. Up next is the Polo Ralph Lauren Beaton, which I ranked as the best quilted jacket
3:30
jacket, and this one is lighter than the parka but still keeps you warm and stylish
3:35
But this is more of a fall and mild winter type of jacket, so you might want to layer
3:40
up more. The quilting pattern looks clean and it'll definitely be a standout
3:45
And this is the type of jacket you wear if you want to dress up without having an overly
3:49
bulky jacket. Plus details like the metal snap closures, ventilated underarms, and multiple pockets
3:56
add nice utility. And while it's not meant for extreme cold or heavy snow, it can handle light rain
4:03
So if you're after a jacket that offers style, then the Polo Ralph Lauren Beaton is a great pick
4:08
Next is the Banana Republic shearling, which I ranked as the best aviator jacket
4:13
And if leather is your thing, then this one might be for you. With a soft leather exterior and a genuine shearling lining, it's one of Banana Republic's warmest pieces
4:23
The relaxed fit, point collar with belted throat latch and exposed front zip give it
4:29
a vintage aviator look that feels expensive. However, it's not an everyday jacket
4:35
I'd call this more of a statement piece. But when you do wear this, it'll definitely turn heads
4:41
Just be aware that it's pretty heavy, but you might overlook that since these jackets
4:46
tend to be extremely comfortable. So if you're after that premium aviator aesthetic with some serious warmth, then the Banana
4:53
Republic shirling is the way to go. Next is the Rab Borealis, which I ranked as the best softshell jacket
5:01
And the first thing you'll notice about this is the weight. It's super light, just over half a pound, so wearing this during a hike will feel perfect
5:10
And because the fabric has some give, you can reach and scramble easily without getting
5:14
in your way. And besides that, the two chest pockets are mesh lined so when you're working hard, you
5:20
can unzip then dump heat, even with a backpack or harness on
5:25
Just remember, this isn't the jacket you grab in extreme temperatures. It has minimal water resistance and basically no insulation, so you'll want extra layers
5:33
in real coal. But if breathability and freedom of movement matter most to you for your outdoor adventures
5:39
then the Rab Borealis is perfect. Up next is the Hart Schaffner Marks, which I ranked as the best overcoat
5:46
And this is your classic wool cashmere overcoat. We're talking about 90% wool and 10% cashmere fully lined
5:54
It hits about mid-thigh and you've got a 3-button closure, notch lapels, welt pockets, and a
6:00
back vent. Now, people buy Hart Schaffner Marks because these coats are built to last
6:05
It the kind of thing you buy once and you set for years And the wool cashmere blend keeps you warm without feeling bulky And because it a more traditional cut you can throw it over a suit jacket and still move comfortably The fit can
6:19
feel a bit boxy, but that extra space is exactly what you want when you're layering. So if you need
6:25
something that works over a suit and looks timelessly classic, then the Hart Schaffner
6:29
Mark Sheffield is the one to choose. Next is the Carhartt Walter Cotton and Linen Canvas
6:35
which I ranked as the best chore coat. And it's a mid-weight cotton linen cannabis blend
6:41
unlined, so this is something you'd reach for in spring, fall, or on a cooler summer evenings
6:47
You still get the Carhartt toughness, but without the super heavy duck canvas. Now the fabric feels
6:52
lighter on the body, doesn't make you overheat, and it already has a bit of worn-in look when you
6:58
first put it on. So if you just need something tough that also looks good, then the Carhartt
7:03
Walter is a solid pick. Next up is the Cotopaxi Yermo, which I ranked as the best windbreaker
7:09
jacket. And this is a soft shell windbreaker made from recycled fabric, and the inside is brushed
7:15
so it'll actually feel comfortable even if you're just wearing it over a t-shirt. Now it's not going
7:20
to handle heavy rain or deep winter cold, but that's not really the point. This is more of an
7:25
everyday type of layer that moves with you, whether you're climbing, hiking, or just out for a jog
7:31
and people who are into Cotopaxi's colorful, outdoorsy vibe really love this jacket
7:36
It's light, packs down pretty well, and handles cool, breezy days without making you feel bulky
7:42
Plus, you've got four zippered pockets to stash your snacks and essentials, and the hood is ready for the trail
7:48
So if you're looking for something lightweight for casual adventures, then the Cotopaxi Urmo fits the build perfectly
7:54
Up next is the All Saints Luck, which I ranked as the best leather jacket
7:58
Now All Saints is the type of brand that makes jackets for people who want a modern edgy vibe
8:04
and this luck jacket nails that with a slim minimalist cut and subtle moto details
8:10
Now the leather is soft from day one and it only gets better the more you wear it
8:14
And what I love about All Saints is the quality. It looks premium without the crazy designer price tag
8:21
But just so you know this jacket is more about style than function
8:24
It's great with jeans and boots for a rock inspired look, but don't expect it to be
8:29
your go to for warmth or heavy weather. Also the fit tends to be narrow in the shoulders and torso, so sizing up may be needed for
8:37
layering thicker garments. But if you're after a sleek leather jacket that makes a statement, then the All Saints
8:43
slug won't let you down. Next up is the Alpha Industries MA1 which I ranked as the best bomber jacket
8:50
Ok so this jacket is legendary. Alpha Industries has been making these for the US military since the 1950s, and the design hasn't changed much
9:00
Now, it won't replace a parka, but for 20 degrees, you're pretty much good
9:04
The jacket features a mid-weight, water-resistant nylon shell with ripped collar, cuffs, and waistband for a classic fit
9:10
It also includes flat pockets interior pockets and the signature utility pocket with bright orange lining And actually it pretty much a streetwear staple now You can throw it on with jeans or even dress it up a bit And look what Latricia had to say about
9:25
this. My boyfriend really enjoyed his gift so much so he wore it the same night he got it
9:30
It fits perfect and functions great to give that look while being comfortable and warm
9:34
He's had it for three years and it still looks like he just got it. So if you're after that
9:38
military heritage look with real functionality, you can't go wrong with the Alpha Industries MA1
9:44
Up next is the J.Crew Barber Before, which I ranked as the best wax jacket
9:49
Alright, so this jacket is not its best right away, but the more you wear it, the better it looks
9:55
and it can handle light rain without a problem. You've got silk oil wax cotton on the outside, the iconic tartan lining, and a corduroy collar
10:04
And the fit is relaxed with large bellows pockets and the rear game pocket, so you get tons of storage
10:10
Now the two-way zipper and the storm flap were originally designed for the countryside
10:15
but the jacket still looks polished enough to wear over a suit in the city
10:19
And right out of the box, it might feel a bit stiff and have that waxy smell
10:24
but both fade as you break it in. Barbour even offers re-waxing and repair services
10:30
which is why people keep these jackets for decades. So if you want a jacket that ages with you and has real heritage
10:37
then the J.Crew Barbour before is a must-have. Next is the Carhartt OG Detroit, which I ranked as the best denim jacket
10:45
And this is the denim version of Carhartt's classic Detroit jacket made with durable denim
10:49
and a contrasting corduroy collar. And people praise it for toughness and how it breaks in and fades over time
10:56
Now the boxy cropped workwear cut looks great with high rise pants
11:01
Just be aware that this isn't a jacket for the coldest days
11:04
You'll love it for in between weather, and when it turns seriously cold, you can layer
11:08
it under something thicker and stay comfortable. So if you're a fan of workwear style and love a
11:13
jacket that improves over time, then the Carhartt OG Detroit is a great choice. Finally, we have the
11:19
North Face Aconcagua 3, which I ranked as the best water repellent jacket. Alright, so what's cool
11:24
about this one is the insulation mix. It's half recycled down and half synthetic, and that gives
11:30
you a puffy, down style warmth, but it doesn't fall apart the second things get a bit wet. I'd say
11:36
It feels just right and the 40 degrees Fahrenheit rains with just a t-shirt underneath
11:41
And if temps drop below that, you'll want to wear some extra layers. Now on the outside, you've got a recycled windwall shell with a non-PFC DWR finish
11:50
And that means it cuts the wind and shrugs off light rain or snow, but it's not a full-on waterproof shell
11:57
The finish true to size with a slightly tapered look. And some people do notice a few feathers sneaking out over time, especially after washing
12:05
But the warmth stays there. So if you want a jacket that offers the perfect balance of warmth and versatility, then the
12:11
North Face Aconcagua 3 is your go-to choice. And that's all for today
12:16
I hope this list helped you choose the perfect winter jacket. And if you find something you like, don't forget to check the links in the description
