Vistler sent me this wireless lavalier microphone set so I just want to do a quick unboxing and go
0:05
ahead and test this out to compare it to my iPhone's mic and to the mic that I'm currently
0:09
using. Oh it's pretty cool. First thing we're greeted with is actually going to be this whole
0:14
carrying case so I do like that it's off to a good start. Whenever I got this mic it came with
0:19
like a small case but this is an actual like a nice hard case so I do like that and we do have
0:24
this zipper which we can't miss because it does have this loop around it so we just open it up
0:28
Just like so and right here it reveals. Okay, and it actually has two compartments
0:32
So let's take a look at the bottom compartment first. So right here There's gonna be a user manual and neatly stored inside. We're gonna have both transmitters and the receiver
0:39
So one of it's gonna go ahead and attach to your phone to your camera and the other one's gonna be on your person
0:45
Whether it be, you know You holding it directly or just attached to like your shirt kind of like I have this mic over here
0:50
So right here is gonna be the receiver. It just comes out of the plastic just like so and it does have this nice protectant
0:56
So I'll just go ahead and take it right off. And here we could see in the middle, the logo of Asila
1:00
And then taking a look on the side, there's going to be nothing on this side, nothing at the bottom
1:04
And on the top, we are going to have a button. This is going to be to control the decibels
1:08
And on the other side over here, we're going to have two USB-C ports and a power button
1:13
So one of the ports is going to power OTG. The other is going to be to give it power to charge it
1:18
And on the backside, we're going to have this clip just to go ahead and clip it onto something
1:22
And so right here are both transmitters and I can just take the plastic just right off. And there they are
1:27
So the setup is going to be slightly different because on top, we're going to have the microphones. On the side, there's going to be nothing
1:32
And on the other side, we're going to have one USB-C port that's going to go ahead and be to give it power
1:38
And then there's going to be two buttons, one which is going to be power and then this other O button, which might be a mute button, but I'll check with it later
1:45
And of course, there's going to be these two clips just to go ahead and attach it to your clothes. So, you know, once you have it on your person, you can go ahead and kind of attach it over here and then just talk with it just like so
1:54
And so here's the receiver and both transmitters nicely packed in here. We can just go ahead and push this downwards
2:00
And then right up here we going to have all the other accessories So for starters we going to have two pairs of headphones that connect via USB We going to have the charging cable and I do like the fact that it gonna have two USB ports in one so we can charge both of the receivers at once Here a USB to aux cord
2:16
a USB-C to USB type A cord so you can go ahead and use this for your computer, a USB-C to lightning
2:21
to go ahead and use it with the iPhone, and finally a USB-C to aux so this can be used to
2:25
connect to a DSLR. And it also does come with these windscreens. And now comes the most important part
2:29
which is to test these out beforehand i do want to go ahead and kind of mess with the windscreen
2:34
so right here we have the transmitter and it seems that to attach it there's not going to be like any
2:40
clip it's just going to be magnetic so it kind of attaches just like that so it might come loose so
2:45
i just won't use this for now and right here we have the receiver so let me just go ahead and turn
2:50
it on by holding the power button over here and let's see if it lights up yep it lights up and so
2:55
right here we see three bars and there's going to be no connection over here but when I go ahead and
3:01
turn on one of the receivers so right here's the power button there now it's connected so one is
3:05
connected we can see it because it's not blinking on and off and when we go ahead and turn on the
3:09
second one the same thing is going to happen but since I only need one transmitter right now I'll
3:13
just go ahead and turn this one off and I do want to go ahead and connect the receiver to my iPhone
3:18
so to do that I have to grab the right cable which is going to be this one right over here so it
3:22
It's really easy. All I gotta do is just plug this part in just like that and then I can plug in the receiver over to the OTG
3:28
And there, so now it's ready to record and all the audio that's going to be recorded on my phone is going to be with this microphone over here
3:34
So let me go ahead and side and test it out. So I'm outside. There's some cars in front of me. So I just want to go ahead and test out the audio
3:39
But beforehand, I do want to go ahead and compare the size between what I'm currently using, which is going to be this Rode mic, which is going to be this over here versus this Vasilia mic
3:49
Now taking a look at the size of both of these, they're both literally going to be nearly identical
3:53
But when it comes to thickness, this is where things get different. So the Rode Mic is going to be a little bit thinner than the Vasila, but they're both going to go ahead and have clips
3:59
And as far as sturdiness goes, I mean, yeah, they both feel like they're powerful either way
4:04
But the material made out of both of these is going to be a little bit different. So now taking a look at the Rode Mic this feels like it just going to be plastic all over Whereas this one although it is plastic it kind of feels like it a little bit softer I not sure what Vecilla went ahead and like sprayed onto this or painted with it but it does feel pretty nice Now weight wise I can really tell much I think the road
4:22
a little bit heavier. It might be denser than this one as far as like face goes. Here you go here you
4:25
can see what both them look like. You got the logo road up top and Vecilla right here in the center
4:29
Now as far as buttons go the Vecilla is going to have more buttons. It's going to have two as opposed
4:33
to the road's one button and that's because this one button has the function of these two. So if you
4:37
press it, you mute, if you hold it, you turn it off. Whereas in this one, you press, you mute
4:41
you hold, Bluetooth turns on so you can connect it to your phone. And then the other button is
4:45
going to be for power. I flip-flopped them. The bottom one is power and the top one is going to
4:49
be Bluetooth slash mute. Now they're both going to have USB-C ports to go ahead and charge them
4:53
And here you can go ahead and see. Now taking a look at the top, this is where things get a little bit different because with Rode Mic, you just go ahead and clip on the windscreen. Whereas on the
5:00
Vasilla, it's magnetic. And this one also is going to have two LED buttons over here indicating if
5:04
there's power and indicating if it's connected to the receiver. Now the biggest difference is that
5:09
the Rode mic does have this 3.5 millimeter headphone jack and I even went ahead and bought
5:12
the lavalier as well too and this is basically so I don't have to have the bulky receiver just on my
5:17
shirt. Instead I can have this little mic over here that's a little bit more hidden and a little bit more tucked away and so here's what the receivers looks like and this time the Rode
5:24
mic is going to have more buttons than the Vesilla. Now taking a look at the top this is where we're
5:28
going to go ahead and turn it off on the Rode mic whereas on the Vesilla this is going to be
5:32
to change the decibels. So the Vasilla has three decibel options. Right here you can see it's going
5:36
to be at the lowest setting which is going to be zero. We press it. It goes all the way to the
5:39
highest which is negative 12. Negative six is the middle. Back to zero but I'll leave it at negative
5:43
12. Whereas on the Rode mic we have a more broad range. So right now it's currently in negative 12
5:48
because this is probably the best that I found. But you can go ahead and adjust it with the bottom
5:52
with the button at the bottom over here. So right here you can see it's negative 12. So if I press
5:56
the button over here it goes from negative 12 to negative nine to negative six, negative three
6:01
zero, negative 30, negative 27, negative 24, negative 21, negative 18, negative 15, and back to negative 12
6:09
And there also is gonna be another button on the road mic and this is basically the go ahead
6:12
and switch between both transmitters. So I press it we on transmitter A which is gonna be of course the one on me right now and transmitter two which I mean it not active I don currently have it on but that just if we want to go ahead and like mute it The other difference is going to go ahead and be the ports So right here we only
6:27
going to have a USB-C port, and this is going to be for charging, and also to go ahead and use it
6:32
whether to connect to your phone, which I'm connected right now, connect to the computer, or connect to a DSLR, whereas on here, we have a port for charging, or the aux cable, which is
6:41
currently connected to my camera right now. All right, so I accidentally had a reverberation on
6:45
when I recorded the first time. And also one thing worth noting is the Scylla also does come with this headphone
6:51
So I'm out here again just so you can go ahead and hear what it sounds like the second time
6:57
So this is without reverberation and here you can hear a school bus. So hopefully it doesn't sound too bad
7:05
And I just want to go back to the original position I was in before and compare it again
7:11
All right, so right here you can see I still have my headphone on. so i can go ahead and hear myself talking and i can still hear myself as i go ahead and back away
7:20
kind of cold but hopefully you can go ahead and tell a little bit more oh here's a car coming so
7:28
hopefully you can go ahead and hear if it drowns out the noise but yeah i don't know if there's
7:36
any more cars coming all right i have a car coming on my right side and so now you can go ahead and
7:42
hear how my voice sounds right now hopefully it sounds pretty good and then with the car hopefully
7:49
did a good job to block that noise out over there and then with the car hopefully did a good job to
7:54
block that noise out over there but yeah that's about it for the testing and so hopefully you
8:02
got a good idea on how the vasilla sounds in comparison to my other mic uh the road mic
8:07
Hopefully you got a good idea on how the Vasilia sounds in comparison to my other mic, the road mic
8:14
Oh, and I have one more car coming over here. Oh, it's a FedEx. Okay. So hopefully this tested a good job and you can kind of hear differences between just the road mic and the Vasilia as well too
8:23
But yeah, that's a quick overview and a quick test of the Vasilia mic
