Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for homemade crescent rolls:
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
½ cup warm water (110°F to 115°F)
½ cup butter, softened
½ cup warm milk (110°F to 115°F)
1 large egg, room temperature
⅓ cup sugar
¾ teaspoon salt
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions:
Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar in warm water. Let it stand until bubbly, about 5 minutes.
Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the butter, warm milk, egg, ⅓ cup sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and mix well.
Add Flour: Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. The dough should be soft but not sticky.
Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal parts. Roll each part into a 12-inch circle. Cut each circle into 12 wedges. Roll up each wedge, starting from the wide end, to form a crescent shape.
