well so far that's two you know it's a
0:02
it's a group that is still coming
0:03
together um I thought we played to the
0:06
score a little bit in the second half um
0:08
and kind of lost the sharpness that we
0:10
need to play with meaning discipline on
0:11
the defensive end and then offensively
0:14
you know um getting a great shot um but
0:17
there were some really good things in
0:18
the first half obviously I think we
0:20
charted what 36 of our 40 possessions
0:22
were either open shots good shots just a
0:25
miss or a foul um and about half of that
0:28
in the second half so we just played to
0:29
the score a little bit too much um
0:30
missed a lot of free throws um but uh
0:33
yeah good to have the second one and
0:34
we'll move on to the
0:37
third was the defense something you were
0:40
extra pleased with especially in the
0:42
first half yeah I thought they did a lot
0:43
of nice things in the first half for
0:44
sure we're still working on their
0:46
activity kind of not deterring their
0:48
discipline you know um I think sometimes
0:51
they're so competitive they think I'm
0:52
going to make sure the other team
0:53
doesn't shoot it's more about they I
0:56
want the other team to take a shot we
0:57
don't want them to take right so that
0:58
led to some I thought some cheap fouls
1:01
and some going for things that we didn't
1:03
need so we're still working on the
1:04
discipline but I'll take activity all
1:05
day and then we'll we can always
1:07
continue to tweak the
1:10
discipline um the only two departments
1:12
that you guys didn't lead in were threo
1:14
percentage and free throw percentage um
1:16
but in some of the preseason talks you
1:18
were really excited about how well
1:20
everyone was shooting from three what
1:21
were some of those struggles just coming
1:22
from from outside the perimeter that's a
1:25
good question I mean I think the the the
1:27
guys that we want shooting threes I
1:29
think we we can make we can make we can
1:31
make more than that you know um
1:33
obviously they're worth mathematically a
1:34
lot more so 33% from three is better
1:37
than 40% from do right so part of it you
1:39
play that out um but uh the free throw
1:42
line you know I I don't know what to say
1:45
I mean they're free throws like they are
1:47
free right so I don't know how to help
1:49
you with that we shoot a lot of free
1:50
throws we've tried everything under the
1:52
sun um it comes down to I think I think
1:54
it I think free throws come down to if
1:56
you're how are you as a shooter for sure
1:58
but also it's like
2:00
what do you say to yourself like do you
2:03
walk up and say I hope I make this or do
2:06
you walk up and you're say I made this
2:07
shot a thousand times in my life and I I
2:09
can't speak for that I I don't know but
2:12
leaving 14 points on the free throw line
2:13
is going to be really hard to beat the
2:14
top 10
2:16
team and back to that three ball um Ria
2:19
and Lexi were shooting it well but um
2:21
Alyssa was having some trouble not only
2:23
from three but just from the field
2:24
tonight how important were they in
2:26
stepping up yeah uh you know I think
2:30
they're both really key to what we're
2:31
doing um you know we know Lexi can shoot
2:34
it you know I like that she was able to
2:36
go off the dribble a bit more I thought
2:37
she was more aggressive in in passing
2:39
Lanes with her hands on defense um when
2:41
your a fifth year kid is still getting
2:42
better that's a good thing um you know
2:44
she's more than just a shooter but we
2:46
needed her today to to knock down shots
2:48
and and R is aggressive you know when
2:50
she can continue to stay aggressive um I
2:52
think she can make some better decisions
2:54
um but you know her being aggressive I I
2:56
always like where we are in that when
2:57
that's the case
3:00
Lexi I'm sure people expect you to be
3:02
making some perimeter shots and to hit a
3:04
few tonight just that kind of in game
3:06
two you've kind of shown all right this
3:07
is what you can do is that what's that
3:09
feel like yeah it feels good I mean we
3:11
trust this team shooting it from three
3:12
we've shot it really well in practice
3:14
and I feel like that'll just continue to
3:15
get better the more that we're able to
3:16
play to play together and just play in
3:19
front of a crowd get some more games
3:20
under our belt I feel like it'll just
3:23
percentage wise continue to keep getting
3:24
better so it feels good to have a couple
3:26
more going compared to our first game
3:27
and I just hope that we can keep Turing
3:29
in that direction
3:31
you had one really nice little Euro Step
3:33
in the third quarter and the bench was
3:35
super hype um just talk to me about like
3:38
how your bag is deeper than just catch
3:39
and shoot or just threes in general yeah
3:42
I think coach and I have talked about
3:43
this but last year I was just a little
3:45
too
3:45
content standing outside shooting threes
3:48
and so she's really challenged me my
3:50
teammates have challenged me just to do
3:53
more pretty much and put the ball on the
3:55
floor more win the paint more for myself
3:57
for my teammates and just yeah be more
4:00
confident with the ball in my
4:03
hand R what's your take away from the
4:05
game today what what do you think is
4:07
gonna be super proud of the team like
4:09
you know we've been fighting a lot
4:11
during practice just everything but we
4:13
do have to get better you know we have
4:15
better competition coming and we just
4:16
need to get better so we have to
4:19
get been fighting and practice no like
4:22
just the energy passion yeah we've been
4:24
having a lot of passion lately and
4:25
that's we're trying to keep that up for
4:27
the next competition
4:30
yeah shout out to you know Blanca got 10
4:32
boards it's her career high here uh with
4:35
basically in foul trouble a lot of it um
4:37
you know and needing her to get
4:39
experience so that was key and then you
4:41
know Sierra almost a double double you
4:43
know that was that was uh you know so
4:45
these guys are coming along they're
4:46
young some young guys that we're going
4:47
to lean on so it's good for them get
4:49
some
4:49
experience according to how important is
4:52
next week stepping out of your comfort
4:54
zone a little bit at least a different
4:55
venue a couple different venes how how
4:58
important is yeah it's great great we'll
4:59
have our we had our first our first game
5:01
this tonight we had our first night game
5:03
uh next one we'll have our first away
5:04
game and then um you know our uh the
5:07
next one after that your first DV game
5:09
you know it's just a lot of Firsts for
5:10
this group so you know it's why you do
5:12
it is that you get you find out kind of
5:14
each one where you're at and what you
5:16
need to work on and this group has
5:18
responded you know um there were moments
5:20
where we really didn't play well um but
5:22
if I'm being real I know part of it is
5:24
it's hard not to play to the scoreboard
5:25
and you could say they need to be better
5:27
and I get it right but you know we gave
5:29
up 16 first half points when the score
5:31
was was more in the game right um so
5:34
yeah next week will'll be it'll be two
5:35
new experiences for us and then we come
5:37
back and we um have our first you know
5:39
long road trip so we kind of have a lot
5:42
of Firsts over the next of the next you
5:44
know kind of these first three weeks by
5:45
Design as we know our ACC is coming and
5:47
that's a a formidable challenge for this
5:50
team Lexi you said you're challenged
5:53
you're challenging yourself and your
5:54
teammates are challenging you to go
5:56
beyond the three is that still your
5:57
favorite shot and if so like on the
5:59
court you like the wing you like the
6:02
corner um I don't know they're open
6:05
right yeah wherever I'm not guarded is
6:06
the best spot um I would say transition
6:09
threes are the most fun though just a
6:12
off the slice or off a throw a head um
6:16
when you can hit one of those it it's a
6:17
big energy boost for the team I saw you
6:20
working with Sydney before the second
6:22
half and she was tossing in those
6:23
transition like like passes um is that
6:26
what you work on a lot in practice too
6:28
and a lot in the offseason mhm yeah for
6:30
sure and personally I had missed a
6:32
couple in the first half that I wanted
6:33
to make that were that exact type of
6:35
shot and so yeah I said with her um at
6:38
halftime uh she was passing me the ball
6:41
to get some of those looks to hopefully
6:43
make them in the second half yeah
