Wafaa Aqila Killed After School.

Gaza - September 08, 2026 Nine-year-old Palestinian girl Wafaa Aqila is remembered through photographs, schoolbooks and personal belongings at her family's home and at HDF School in the Al-Nasr neighborhood of northwestern Gaza City, Gaza Strip, following her death on September 6, 2026. According to her family, Wafaa had attended the first day of the new academic term at HDF School and was returning home with her father when the vehicle in which they were traveling was struck on Al-Nasr Street in western Gaza City, killing her. Her mother, Sahar Al-Aklouk, 30, said Wafaa had been eager to return to school and had spoken about her hopes for her education before leaving home that morning. At the family's home in Al-Nasr, Wafaa's grandmother, Raghda Al-Aklouk, 50, holds schoolbooks that the family said were with the girl in the vehicle at the time of the strike. Photographs of Wafaa and her school materials remain at the family home, while her portrait has also been displayed inside HDF School in remembrance of the nine-year-old pupil. Family members said Wafaa had returned to the classroom for the beginning of the school term only hours before she was killed, leaving behind the books and supplies prepared for the academic year. The circumstances of the strike and the intended target were not independently verified.
