VARIOUS OF PROLONGED ELECTRICITY OUTAGES IN VENEZUELA / DAILY LIFE AMID OUTAGES MARACAIBO, VENEZUELA - MAY 28: Residents in Maracaibo, Venezuela, continued to face prolonged electricity outages on Thursday, May 28, as the country’s deteriorating power grid strained daily life, education and industrial activity. People in the city reported spending between five and nine hours without electricity, amid ongoing failures in a system affected by years of underinvestment and infrastructure decline. The Venezuelan Society of Psychologists warned that students were struggling to complete schoolwork because of frequent blackouts and limited access to electricity. Business groups have also raised concerns about the impact of power cuts on production, saying it has become increasingly difficult to maintain operations under current conditions. According to local industry representatives, outages have affected multiple sectors, including manufacturing and commerce. A spokesperson for US oil company Chevron said repeated power failures were also disrupting oil production, noting that dozens of wells are forced to shut down during outages and are difficult to restart because of the complexity of operations. Venezuela possesses the world’s largest proven oil reserves, but its energy infrastructure has faced years of deterioration, contributing to recurring blackouts across large parts of the country.
