The suspect attacked a man and a woman with a large kitchen knife near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m. Officers confronted the suspect behind an NYPD substation, where she pointed the blade directly at them, prompting police to open fire and strike her. Emergency medical personnel rushed both victims and the suspect to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
