Floriston, United States - August 28, 2026 A wrecked red tractor unit is shown hanging in mid-air from heavy chains after a big rig crashed through a bridge rail on eastbound Interstate 80 near Floriston on the morning of August 28, 2026. The cab was crushed and torn open as a red-and-white Five Star 75-ton rotator crane held the truck while crews in high-visibility gear worked along the bridge barrier. Video shows the crane slowly lifting and rotating the smashed cab back over the roadway. Hydraulic equipment, hoses and debris are visible on the concrete bridge deck above the river. The solo big rig collision happened just west of the Nevada line. The truck left the roadway, tore through the bridge rail and left the cab hanging about 80 feet off the structure. No other vehicles were involved. The driver was ejected and injured, while Care Flight was called. The California Highway Patrol did not immediately confirm every detail. All eastbound lanes were closed for hours, with traffic turned around at Hirschdale. By 4 p.m., the No. 1 lane had reopened while the No. 2 lane remained closed as crews continued working. Later, all eastbound lanes near Floriston were reopened.
