The bus, belonging to King David Junior School in Kampala, was returning from a visit to Sipi Falls when it crashed at Chekwatit village in Kapchorwa District, Uganda Police said. Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver lost control, causing the bus to leave the road, strike a large rock and overturn, police said. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. The adult who died was identified as the school's founder and head. Twenty-eight injured children were receiving treatment at nearby hospitals, including nine in critical condition, Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi said. Survivors, including three adults and several pupils, were taken to hospitals as local residents joined emergency teams in rescue operations. Uganda suspended all school trips and excursions following the crash as authorities faced calls for stronger safety measures for school transport.
