VARIOUS DRONE SHOTS OF LAKE CANAKKALE, TÜRKİYE - JULY 19, 2026: A heart-shaped lake in northwestern Türkiye has turned pink again, creating striking views in Canakkale’s Ezine district. The lake, known locally as Pink Lake or Heart Lake, is located near the coast in Dalyan village, inside the inner harbor area of the ancient city of Alexandria Troas. Its water changes color at certain times of the year, turning into shades of brick red, pink and reddish tones. The color change is caused by the rapid growth of a microscopic organism called dunaliella salina as temperatures and salinity levels rise. The lake turned pink later than usual this year after the area received its heaviest rainfall in 13 years last month. Depending on the rise and fall of the water level, the lake can sometimes take the shape of a heart during the summer months.
