BURNED TREE AND VEGETATIONGHAR EL MELH, BIZERTE, TUNISIA — AUG. 8, 2026: Vast areas of vegetation have been scorched by wildfires in Bizerte, Tunisia, as temperatures climbed above 45C (113F) across the country. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, nearly 12,100 hectares (29,900 acres) of land have been ravaged by around 1,000 wildfires. Unusually high temperatures for the season, combined with a prolonged dry spell, increased the risk of fires. While no lives were lost, the fires could harm local biodiversity and hurt tourism, said Houssam al-Imam, a member of the Ghar El Melh Local Union of Agriculture and Fisheries.
