SHOTLIST: ANKARA, TÜRKİYE (JULY 28, 2026) (TURKISH MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF FIREFIGHTER PLANES TAKING OFFANKARA, TÜRKİYE - JULY 28: Türkiye assigned two firefighting aircraft to support France’s wildfire response after Paris requested assistance, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli said on July 28. In a post on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Yumakli said the aircraft were deployed following instructions from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He noted that Türkiye had previously sent two firefighting aircraft to Spain as wildfires continued across parts of Europe. Yumakli said the ongoing fires in Europe once again showed the difficulty of battling forest blazes, adding that Türkiye was ready to use its capacity and experience to help protect forests in other countries when needed. He wished success to the teams deployed for the mission and those working in the field, stressing that Türkiye would continue cross-border solidarity in fighting wildfires. Europe is battling a wave of devastating wildfires, particularly in France, Spain, and Greece, as soaring temperatures fuel multiple blazes across the continent. The EU has activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to support firefighting efforts in both countries. According to the European Commission, France has received seven firefighting aircraft and four helicopters from the Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Portugal, Slovakia, Sweden, and Türkiye. Spain has received six firefighting aircraft from Greece, Italy, and Türkiye, while Portugal has also deployed 134 firefighters and 41 vehicles.
