VARIOUS OF PALESTINIAN CHRISTIANS WITH CLERGY MARCHING AND CHEERING AS PART OF VIRGIN MARY PROCESSION IN JERUSALEM / SCOUT MARCHING BANDS ACCOMPANYING PROCESSION JERUSALEM - SEPT. 5: Orthodox clergy and local residents marched through the stone alleyways of Jerusalem's Old City on Saturday, Sept. 5, participating in a traditional procession commemorating the Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. The procession commenced at the Church of Gethsemane and proceeded along the Via Dolorosa—the historic route believed by Christian tradition to be the path Jesus walked to his crucifixion. Worshippers carrying sacred icons and chanted traditional liturgical hymns as they moved toward the Christian Quarter. Marching bands and cheering crowds greeted the procession as it entered the Christian Quarter. Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III, along with clergy and Christians living in the city, attended the event and the annual procession concluded at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
