Abuja, Nigeria - April 30, 2026 Dr Nse- Obong Undie, Chief Consultant ENT Surgeon, has called on organisations to conduct ear screening and examination pre employment on people who they employ. Undie said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja. The expert said employees should also have a copy of the result of the examination done during the employment phase, noting that it serves as an evidence for any future emergencies. "Those employers may know that this things may eventually bring problems, the best thing would have been for them to have pre employment check, of the hearing status of anybody thats employed there, they don't do it "Now when the person develops problems and complains, the defense would be, we didn't know that you had any problems before you came to us, they won't take responsibility for it. "I think the public should know that there are some jobs that are potentially very dangerous to the ear, like the army, you first have to do your hearing test, have a record and keep it for yourself. She therefore called on organisations to take heed on precautions to avoid future occurrence. "And when you go to the shooting range, insist that they give you ear muffs and use it and cover your ears. "And whoever is there should insist and ensure that every soldier has enough to protect themselves. "When working at the airplane tarmac, the same goes for them, those people in their ignorance honestly people don't know that these things are problems. "And those that are given, they don't wear them, they consider them a burden. I see some musician who are very deaf, "When they are in their cubicle they play very loud enough to hear by themselves. You that is observing the best thing for you is to stay far away," she said. Undie also called for a collaboration between organisations and ENTs to ensure better ear health.
