VARIOUS SCREENING OF CARTOONS / CHILDREN WATCHING CARTOONGAZA, PALESTINE - SEPT. 2, 2026: Displaced children in Gaza gathered among tent settlements surrounded by rubble on Wednesday, Sept. 2, finding a temporary escape from war, fear, and hardship through mobile cartoon screenings and recreational events. Operating under the "Gaza International Children's Cinema" project, volunteer teams run the "Little Wings Cinema" initiative to bring animated films directly to displaced youth. Using alternative energy sources—including solar panels and portable batteries—to bypass severe power outages, organizers set up improvised screening spaces in camp yards across northern, central, and southern Gaza. At a recent screening in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of northern Gaza, dozens of children sat in dusty open courtyards to watch animated features and join organized games. Project worker Esma Dababish said the team strives to restore a sense of hope and alleviate the psychological toll of displacement. Dababish noted that restricted movement between camps and fuel shortages remain major operational hurdles, urging international humanitarian organizations to assist the project. The death toll from Israel’s genocide on the Gaza Strip has risen to 73,470 after eight more Palestinians were killed over the past 24 hours, Gaza’s Health Ministry said Wednesday. The overall toll from Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza since Oct. 8, 2023, has reached 73,470 killed and 174,540 injured, the ministry added. Along with the casualties, most of them women and children, Israel has destroyed around 90% of the Gaza Strip’s civilian infrastructure, while the UN has estimated reconstruction costs at approximately $70 billion.
