Tokyo, Japan - October 09, 2026 Corporate bankruptcies in Japan reached a 13-year high for the April–September period, Tokyo Shoko Research reported Thursday, October 9, 2026. The credit research firm recorded 5,373 business failures with liabilities of at least 10 million yen, up 3.9 percent from a year earlier, with the services and construction sectors logging the most failures and smaller firms accounting for 90 percent of cases. Analysts expect Bank of Japan interest rate hikes to further pressure bankruptcy figures in the fiscal second half.
