The official said that the casualties occurred between 20:30 on Aug. 30 and 20:30 on Sept. 2. Hostilities between the two countries escalated dramatically on Sunday night when U.S. forces struck two Iranian rocket launchers on the Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz in a "limited and precise" operation, marking the first direct U.S. military strike on Iranian targets in over a month. The U.S. forces launched more attacks against Iran in the following days. Iran responded by attacking U.S. bases and assets in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region and the United Arab Emirates.
