China: Guizhou ethnic group celebrates traditional Double Sixth Festival.

Aerial shot of tourists, buildings Storyline People from the Bouyei ethnic group in Bouyei-Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Qianxinan in southwest China's Guizhou Province have been celebrating their traditional Double Sixth Festival with cultural events including a dance parade. Known as "Liu Yue Liu," this traditional Bouyei festival is a time for giving thanks for a bountiful harvest and praying for favorable weather. The celebration dates vary from place to place -- some communities observe it on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, while others mark the occasion on the 16th or even the 26th. Wherever they are, Bouyei people across China come together to honor the day. This year in Qianxinan, the local Bouyei people were joined by their neighbors from other ethnic groups -- including the Miao and Gelao -- for a spectacular dance parade that brought the whole community together in celebration. The parade was a feast for the eyes, with teams showcasing local specialty cuisines and time-honored intangible cultural heritage crafts. The vibrant dances and performances, rich in rural charm and ethnic flavors, attracted tourists from across the country and gave a welcome boost to the local cultural tourism industry.
