The demonstrators marched around the European Commission building before placing the coffins, marked “Rest in peace,” in Schuman Square. They also carried banners calling on the EU to stop cheap imports and protect production within the bloc. The protest was organized by the European Federation of Steel, Tube and Metal Distribution and Trading, EUROMETAL, under the campaign “Keep Production in Europe.” The group says this puts European producers at a competitive disadvantage and could push manufacturing outside the bloc.
