Demonstrators marched through the capital Tirana voicing concerns over the project's potential environmental and social impact. Protesters carrying Albanian flags marched along the Nation's Martyrs Boulevard toward the Prime Ministry building. The multi-billion-dollar development has sparked intense criticism over alleged links to the family of US President Donald Trump, specifically his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner. The project is estimated to cost around $4 billion and is said to include approximately 618 acres within the protected coastal ecosystem. The development is reportedly being pursued by Kushner's investment firm and has received support from the Albanian government. The protests against the tourism project have also evolved into a broader expression of discontent with the current government, with some demonstrators calling for a "revolution" and the removal of the Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government. Edi Rama has rejected claims that the project belongs to the Trump family, while Albanian media have reported that the country's Special Anti-Corruption Structure has opened an investigation into the development.
