Teenagers take center stage during Women’s US Open golf championship

Anyone who's tried to hit that little white ball with the golf club knows it is not an easy game

At the highest level, like the U.S. Women's Open being played this weekend

it's brutal at times, even for the professionals. Flying in the face of that challenge, 14 teenagers will tee it up at Aaron Hills in Wisconsin

Thursday. Three of those girls are just 16 years old. They're showing off not only their golf skill

to compete with players twice their age, but sounding more mature and more competitive than most at their age

16-year-old Asterix Talley made her debut at the U.S. Open last year

and she sounds like a wily vet when talking about the mental side of the game

dealing with frustration when things go wrong. Just trying to figure out how I can deal with those things on the course

especially on things like this where everyone's watching you and everyone's kind of judging how you play and how you bounce back from things like that

So just trying to control your mindset and trying to have a good mindset throughout the whole round

Just staying in the present is really big. Just like Astrid said, golf is a game played between the years

and just staying in the present and not getting ahead of yourself and not thinking about the past, that's crucial

Being coached and playing in tournaments at a very young age is also crucial to making it to this level so early Lexi Thompson became the youngest golfer to qualify for a U Women Open in 2007 She made her debut at age 12 Thompson had great success during her career but there was

a toll. At last year's U.S. Open, she announced her semi-retirement from professional golf at age

29, citing her mental health struggles over the years while under constant scrutiny from the media

and fans. We're doing what we love. We're trying the best every single day and you know we're not

perfect. We're humans. Words hurt and it's hard to overcome sometimes. Thursday Thompson will return

to play in her 19th U.S. Open. Also competing this week Lydia Ko who was ranked number one in

the world at 17 years old. The youngest ever. That was back in 2015. If she wins this week she'll

complete the career Grand Slam. She was asked Tuesday if she talks to the teenagers about

playing on this stage at such a young age. It's honestly so impressive. I played with one of the

players and I was like, wow, you should be playing in the same tees as me. Like she, I think she

shot a better score than me. Um, you know, it's, it's impressive. Like in ways I think age is just

a number, but my caddy and I were joking that when you're that young, you're almost fearless

So you go for every pin, you know, you're a lot more aggressive
