Sen. Mitch McConnell returns to Capitol Hill, casts first vote in months

After three months out of public view, Mitch McConnell is back at the U.S. Capitol

The 84-year-old Kentucky senator returned in a wheelchair Monday. You can see him there at the bottom of your screen

He cast his first Senate vote since a fall at his Washington home sent him to the hospital in June

McConnell voted to advance the nomination of Matthew Byrne to be a federal judge in Ohio

The vote was a close one, 47 to 46. It was McConnell's first public appearance since his hospitalization

He later spent weeks in rehab before returning home in August, and his long absence had fueled questions about whether he would return

before his final Senate term ends in January. McConnell says his recovery has been long and often frustrating

and acknowledges he's not quite back to 100 percent. But he says he'll try to be there for the tough votes

with the farm bill at the top of his list. McConnell also says he plans to spend his final months in office supporting NATO and Ukraine

in its fight against Russia
