Schwarzenegger: immigrants should 'behave like a guest,' not break laws

Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is sparking some debate, including from The View host, after making comments about immigration

Because when you come to America, you're a guest and you have to behave like a guest

Schwarzenegger used the interview to criticize both Democrats and Republicans, suggesting neither side has done enough to fix the country's immigration system

He was asked how he would respond to the unrest around Los Angeles' deportations if he were still a politician

I just think the world of the great kind of history that we have with immigrants in America

But the key thing also is at the same time that we got to do things legal

That is the important thing, you know. So you got to do things legal. And those people that are doing illegal things in America and they're the foreigners, they are not smart

He compared it to being a guest in someone's house, saying when he visits someone's home

he does everything he can to keep it clean rather than committing a crime or being abusive

But the hosts pushed back lightly, with Whoopi Goldberg pointing out that most

immigrants come to the U trying to do the right thing And a lot of what happening right now is people are getting snatched who shouldn be snatched out of the country people who have visas people who have all those things

So a January study looked at criminal records in Texas between 2012 and 2018

They found undocumented immigrants had the lowest overall crime rates even compared to documented immigrants

and U.S.-born citizens. Separately, an associate professor of criminology and criminal justice

tells Northeastern Global News there's absolutely no evidence, none whatsoever, that that's what's

happening on this unprecedented level. Not only is crime not going up, it's not even remaining

static. Entering into the United States is in itself a civil crime. Doing so after previously

being deported is a felony offense. Schwarzenegger's comments have been making rounds on social media

with many people agreeing, but some people, even in the conservative Reddit thread, don't agree

One user on X says his comments are useless right now, potentially due to the current climate

Democrats and Republicans have to come together and solve this issue if they really want to be public servants
