Following the deadly flooding in Texas, one woman is using her quilter's touch to help put the community back together one stitch at a time

That's Connie Quartz. Connie is a quilter on a mission. That mission is to assemble Poppy Block quilts, which symbolize remembrance and peaceful sleep

This is what quilters do. We love sewing. We may never have an intention for these quilts, but now this is an intention that those quilts were made for

With those admirable intentions, Connie just kept on sewing. Then she started asking friends to help, then strangers online

Within a month, quilters from all across the country had shipped in more than 175 quilts to her shop for those in need

Each poppy quilt consists of 35 of those blocks, and on August 30th, Quartz will host a 24-hour sew-along where people from all over the world can join in to sew as many poppy blocks as possible

We'll have them sitting around the table like this, and they will have poppy blocks cut and see how many we can get made in 24 hours
