Nine inmates still at large after escape from New Orleans jail

Authorities in New Orleans are searching for nine inmates who escaped the county jail

including four charged with murder. Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hudson said it appears the inmates received help from people inside the sheriff's department

Ten originally escaped, one inmate has since been found, and nine remain at large

The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office is putting the public on alert as deputies and partner

agencies are searching for detainees who escaped custody. The sheriff's department posted on

Facebook. Authorities said the inmates escaped the Orleans Parish Jail and it wasn't realized

they were missing until 8 30 Friday morning while conducting a routine headcount. Photos released

by the sheriff's office show a possible exit route for the inmates. Pictures depict a hole dug out of

a wall behind a toilet inside what appears to be a jail cell. Messages written on the wall include

we innocent, too easy, LOL, and catch us when you can. Deputies believe the inmates dug the

hole and escaped through the wall The 10 escaped inmates have been identified as Corey Boyd DeKeenan Dennis Jermaine Donald Derek Groves Antoine Massey Robert Moody Kendall Miles Gary Price Leo Tate and Lenton Van Buren

They originally believed 11 inmates escaped. However, one was found in a different cell while searches were underway

Deputies found and recaptured Kendall Miles hiding beneath a car in a hotel parking garage in the French Quarter

He's since been charged with simple escape and taken back into custody

Based on public records from Orleans Parish, Miles was previously charged with second-degree murder

Louisiana State Police and the New Orleans Police Department are also assisting to find the escaped inmates

If you recognize any one picture, do not approach. They may be armed and dangerous, New Orleans Police posted on X

Anyone helping these escapees will be arrested and charged as an accomplice

The sheriff says her office is launching a full investigation into how the escape happened and those responsible for the lapse in security will be held accountable
