Is PreCheck worth it after the TSA shoe removal rule is lifted?

If you pay to breeze through security, you might be wondering if TSA PreCheck is still worth it

now that all flyers in some airports do not have to take off their shoes at all

As first reported by CBS, the change now applies to select airports as a way to enhance the

passenger experience. Those airports include Baltimore, Washington, Fort Lauderdale, Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Portland, Philadelphia, and Piedmont Triad in North Carolina

CBS correspondents also confirmed they kept their shoes on while flying through LAX and New York's LaGuardia

And according to Fox, DHS sources say an announcement was made at Ronald Reagan Washington National Tuesday afternoon

Passengers will still pass through multiple layers of screening. They'll also go through identity verification

So what about those folks who spent $80 for five years of TSA PreCheck, where skipping the shoe removal was one of the biggest perks

There are still advantages. You can keep liquids and large electronics in your bag and leave on belts and light jackets

Plus, the lines move faster. TSA says 99% of PreCheck passengers waited 10 minutes or less

PreCheck is still available at more than 200 airports, so for now, it may be worth it

But the gap could shrink soon as TSA makes these changes and tests tech like touchless pat-down gloves and shoe scanners

But then again, as one ex-user put it, they'll just find something else for us to spend our money on
